    1015 whp 4cyl 20v. a shame...

this is a car here in the USA. this guy does some of his own experimenting on stuff. like the dual gear cam belt setup.

anyhow, he made 1015 whp the other day, on a 2.0L stroker 4cyl 20v motor.

see, over here in good ole USA, we dont know WTF we are doing as far as tuning. this stuff just accidentally works for us. you know, things like safe tunes and lower timing, things that pertain to US and the world as a whole.

just thought i would share. and to think, some people thought my timing was low.

this is not "quite" standard, but standard enough. this is with a manual belt tensioner setup from IE. but notice, same routing for the water pump. yet single cam gear.

They are normally chain driven however they have a funky electronic hydraulic tensioner thingy that advances/retards the intake cam. I suspect that setup either isnt needed or limits the engine speed.

                  mostly correct.

the cams are normally linked on the back end with a chain and a hydraulic tensioner.

the VVT ones do modify inter cam timing on startup, but not any where else in the operation of the motor running that i have read about. and people over here are now starting to mess around with VVT and seeing gains by activating it later in their operation.

the early ones, like AEB and early AWP i believe here and a few others over there possibly, they do not have VVT and thus no electronics for the cam chain tensioner. a straight hydraulic unit.

the reason why Ed did this was to be able to control his cam-to-cam characteristics and inter-cam timing, something not easily done with the OEM setup. it IS possible, but it takes a lot of work and you need the cams with adjustable gears on the chain end.

Ed takes this motor regularly to 9500 and over 10k rpm on occasion.

harnessing all this power to actually apply it, now that is an entirely different story. this is still a FWD drag car.... and FWD sucks.

I'm talking about the angle the belt makes around the pulley, thus 'grabbing' it with more belt teeth on OEM fitment.

Judgeing by eye, pump should have about 28 teeth. The OEM belt makes about a 30 degree bigger bend over the pulley in OEM config compared to new setup, (30/360)*28= 2 1/3 more tooth in contact to drive it, not taking into account the slappy belt for barely touching it over that overspan length.

Just my thoughts as an engineer working daily with proto engines full of designing flaws...

original oil pump yes. solid lifter head is what we run at this level. myself as well.

and yes i see what you mean with the "wrap" on the water pump pulley. it is less than OEM, less than optimal, but its a race car and it wont be run for long amounts of time.

would i run a street car or circuit race car like this? no. a drag car? sure.

642 foot pounds of torque equals 870 newton meters

                              these are US numbers.
