    Operation Bandaid

Well, it's been almost a year since I got my S2. It carried me and my yank friend from pub to pub around Europe for about a month. It didn't miss a beat starting and put "4x4"s to shame over winter.

Unfortunately, apart from a few quick fixes earlier this year, I haven't been able to resolve all of the issues that have come out of the woodwork since buying it.

MOT is coming around and I know it won't make it though as it stands. That and insurance is also due soon... I figure it makes sense to lay it up for a month or two now, taking the opportunity to fix stuff!

So, in no particular order, here's my current issue list:
    • Front brakes have dubious pads that don't quite fit. Replace?
    • Back calipers are officially FUBAR. Replacement with urS4 rear setup.
    • Clutch pedal sticky - investigate - cable?
    • Gear shift is awkward and clunky - investigate mechanism
    • Recently had some hesitation on boost - checking for leak or other fault.
    • Small amounts of oil found in recesses below head - need to check if leak or just me spilling!
    • Front wheels - need spacers. Or just a new set of wheels (mmm, sexy wheels).
    • Battery - on its way out, need to check/replace.
    • Air Con - not working at all - investigate.
    • Rust spots on arches etc. - deal with before entire car rots!
    • Suspension + Subframes all round - check, resolve general creakiness of car. Maybe crack the POR15 out and change some bushings.
    • Interior clear LED conversion - finish doing this.
    • Heated Windscreen - Collect from James who has been kindly hanging onto this for me, fit before winter!
    • Fuel Lines - Sieve-like, replace before car becomes fireball.
    • Spark plugs - check.
    • Window/wiper relays/switches - invesigate spurious nature of operation.
    • Alarm - Find one that doesn't suck and have fitted.
    • Washer Jets - Clean/Replace.

    I think that's about it.

There's also an intended phase two at some point (read: when I win lottery):
    • RS2 Rep Bumper.
    • Porsche Mirrors.
    • Respray! (Anyone had one done recently? How much?)

Car will be going down to my dad's for work. I was wondering if I'd even manage to get it there, since the back-left caliper was ceased on (had smoke coming off it t'other day). Anyway, that's now freed off... unfortunate the pad was essentially destroyed in the process.

    Commence operation limp-it-home

Front brakes have dubious pads that don't quite fit. Replace? ..Replace dont cost muchClutch pedal sticky - investigate - cable? ..slave cylinder or master cylinder pin bent
Gear shift is awkward and clunky - investigate mechanism ...fit short shift
Small amounts of oil found in recesses below head - need to check if leak or just me spilling! rear camshaft (half moon) seal probably to blame , very common

heh - it's already running a short shift kit.

Thanks for the other bits of advice

Actually, on the topic of short shift - that reminds me... the car currently has nothing stopping you going straight into reverse by accident. Is this normal for having the short shift kit on? It has it been fitted incorrectly?

Normal based on the one I drove that had a short shift.

Okay, thanks! Well that's a shame... launches in reverse are not fun.

            Update:

Thanks to my recent endevours I've discovered:
            • It *is* the relay that's the window problem.
            • I can roughly trace an oil leak down to the floor... still not sure of original source point, however.
            • I still have a very small coolant leak.

Jesus, this list is getting long!

Ah well - better a problem known than a problem waiting to happen.

Okay, so the car is now down at my dad's and off the road.

Unfortunately it seems now to be overfuelling significantly - something to look into (boost leak == not enough air?).

Anyway, time to start saving up before I do anything. Gonna need to set aside a few bob!

Incidentally, also found out that my front brakes are big reds, not 996s, which may explain pad discrepency.
