Thought id start a thread about my S2 avant.
As for the project name .....I asked my daughter of 5 yrs what she thought of the car and she told me that her name was pixie
yup shes nuts...
Bought the car a couple of weeks ago and in the first couple of weeks of ownership i must say im very glad to be back in an S2 again.
My first S2 was a J reg 3B coupe in black and i didnt really know what i was buying 10 years ago,I bought that S2 of a slightly dodgey seller and needless to say after about 2 hours of ownership the crank bolt came loose and ended up sheering the key !
I was absolutely guttted and vowed to get her back on the road , after 3 months of slow rebuilding due to work and a friend helping me as a favour I finally got her back on the road
, needless to say i was very pleased and enjoyed every minute of ownership.
About 2 or 3 months later I was awakened by a crash into my house on looking out of my window I saw some thieving toe rag drive off in my pride and joy and it was never to be seen again.
Since those "old" days I have always thought about getting another S2 and as said earlier the time was right and I ended up with this fantastic machine.

I kinda bought it a bit blind again as it had been a long time since my last ownership! but im pretty happy in the fact that it seems to be pretty nice alround with just a few niggles.
I thought i'd make a list of the things that might need to be addressed and they included.
Re fitting the after run pump ( had been removed by previous owner)
Locating and installing a missing undertray
Changing the 710n valve (completely shot)
Carrying out full service (due on time)
Attending to minor bodywork issues (rear door dent had been pushed out and doesnt look great and the front wing has minor bubbling under the paint)
Replacing the slightly noisey PAS pump
Fixing the ambient temp display bulb and diff lock bulb
So after purchasing the car I didnt think the list was too bad for an 18YR old car !
I set about with the service first as its the easiest thing to do replacing the plugs/oil filter/air filter and pollen filter.

I still have all the gearbox oil and diff oil to do and also the fuel filter when i can get her on the ramp next
The next thing to go had to be the original BOV, You could hear it was gone everytime you changed from 1st gear to second gear the noise was very apparent, Luckily my last car was a cupra and I had bought a BOV to change on the cupra but ended up selling the car before i fitted it. I though hmmm I wonder ... after checking the part numbers RESULT the valve was a 710N so it wasnt a wasted purchase and i promtly fitted the valve.
the knackered one ..

Whilst under the car I noticed some parts of the exhaust were getting a bit suspect..

But i guess its still pretty good for an original exhaust !
This got me looking at stainless systems and I started asking the question do i want to keep the car as a stock car or do a few bits to her to improve on this already awesome machine.
I have since decided that im gonna try and aim for a 320-350 hp mark to give her a little extra but still remain within the realms of affordability and driveability.
Obviously the tempting option is to get all the power options done first but I have since decided to upgrade the suspension and brakes as a must first and then head down the power increase route.
Ive been collecting some bits and will add to the project thread as I go along the process
As were a bit quiet at work one of the body guys at work has managed to get the door that I sourced rubbed down and in primer and hopefully she'l be going in the paintshop tommorow for the wing and door ( 2 of the items on my original list ) and to have the whole side blown in. The rest of the car is pretty straight apart from some minor corrosion on the tailgate.
This hopefully will lead me nicely into the weekend where i should have some more time to do more fettling.
So there shall be more to follow
