Haydn got his v8 motor back 4" and down 3" in his 90/4k. Masses of other chassis work, but still a great read if you have some time.
A very select few of you 'Geekers' know about this top secret project, and thanks all of you who do for keeping my little secret. I have a secret project that I will soon share with you all, and I have a feeling you might like it :) My original intention was to keep this project secret, and...
IIRC there is some useful info on cv joint angles, I thought he found some that gave slightly more that others.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

Thanks for that link. Amazing work.
I have started work on the project so will start a new thread once I am a bit further along. It will not be to the same degree but I hope 40mm and rest required from bumper and grill mods.Comment

To use original quattro drivetrain you need to measure some things. Audi would put the engine further back if they could. At least It can be done a few cm with quattro drivetrain. I suggest you to lift the car up and bolt off the gearbox with the front driveshafts in, just to see how far back you can mount it before the angles get's unacceptable. This with someone in car could steer max to left/right and rotate the wheels and see how the joint's behave. Also after this you need to see how much further the splines moved out, or maybe the risk is that they be pulled out too much and destroys the splines on shaft/in hub.
Be happy to follow you as I will do the same research when I mount my DSY gearbox soon on my B4 sedan chassi.Comment

Found the info on using other CVs for increased angle;
Coming later this year once I finish some other projects. This will be my new DD + = (I'll be happy as a pig in shit :) )
Originally posted by timmmyOK here's the scoop on the inner CV thing I mentioned.
The EMPI axles (the particular ones I chose) have the same 28spline interface for the inner CV as the Audi shafts have (not all Audi shafts have this spline, it varies car by car)
The V8Q inner CV's are 28 spline and they will fit on the EMPI axles, however the cut is tight so they need a little gentle persuasion to go on.
So why would you want to do this? well the 108mm flanges on all Audi axles are pretty much the same, there are a few variations on the inner cap i.e. some are open and some have a sheetmetal grease cover. The V8Q inner CV's are thicker than all the others and have more longitudinal travel capability by a factor of about 70%. I believe this was done because the V8Q Auto's had that super wide trans so the shafts were really short and so the angles and relative motion were more extreme. So...... If I put these V8Q inner CV's on I will have more travel and more angle tolerance than with other 108mm inner CV's.
The down side is of course that I dont think the V8Q inner CV's are available new or rebuilt anywhere, if someone could prove me wrong that would be cool!
Some pics for proof:
