Your dead right, the grunt feels nice and it still makes me smile. Still work to do though...
A while ago I decided to put the cone filter in a box to shield it from the turbo heat with 2 cold inlets, 1 from the scuttle panel and 1 behind the headlight. I noticed it is starting to melt though and my IATs are still hitting the 80s.
To try and address this ive done the following. Turbo blanket fitted, heat shield next to top of down pipe. Heat shield fabric stuck to bottom of airbox and cold inlet pipe. Not tested yet but I’ll see what difference it makes. The heat shield isn’t visible with the air filter fitted so it doesn’t so much like a disco ball in situ.
Ive also fitted ducting to the intercooler to try and catch as much air as possible. I do have a very basic water injection fitted but no failsafe so when it was mapped we decided to leave it switched of. At the end of the dyno session we tried switching it back on to see if it gave a benefit but it ran so rich it lost 50bhp. That was with a .6mm jet, I might try again with a .3mm so see if that helps. If not I might try spraying externally on the intercooler.
Im sure the missing 40bhp can be achieved if I can bring the IAT down.Comment

I have thought about an extra intercooler but the only room is in front of the rad, and another thing I'm missing is a reverse inlet manifold. It would need a fair bit of pipe to plumb it back to a standard manifold and I don't really want to introduce any more lag into the system. Thanks for the suggestion anyhow.Comment

a frontmount intercooler is possible on these b2 cars but than you have to cut some pieces away from the front.
i made my front demountable

I've just been staring at my front end at the space available. Don't think I'll get much in there even with the metal choppef. Do you have the 6 speed box, I think that gives an extra 12mm gap. I kept the old 5 speed in. Also do you need the rally style grill for the extra room?a frontmount intercooler is possible on these b2 cars but than you have to cut some pieces away from the front.

yes,i use a 6 speed box but i mounted the origional kv engine mounts on the engine so it does not matter if you use a 5 or 6 speed box,the engine stays on the same place!
only if you make some custom enginemounts you can place the engine a little bit backwords to make more room at the front
my front is still origional, also the grill,i just removed a lot of plastic on the back side of the grill to make some room for the ic
my intercooler stands just above the crankshaft pulley, not beforeaudi coupe quattro b2 2.2 20vt project (573hp-626nm)

Time for my yearly update...
Well, I had a custom intercooler made to go into the original space in the end. As much as like the size of the front mount in the previous thread it looked like too much work and was a bit scary to slice so much metal out.
My new one doesn't have much in the way of extra front surface area but is single pass (where the old one was more restrictive twin) and the new one has internal fins and double the depth. I also made some ducting on each side and above to ensure as much air as possible goes through it. Result approx 20 degree cooler IATs.

Also been tidying the engine bay a bit, I wanted to go for Arons blue weave carbon entgine dress up kit but as I have to save up a ridiculous amount of money for my wedding next month I had to go for the cheaper option of elbow grease and some paint. I sometimes daydream of how awesome by urq would be if I had spent all the wedding money on it.
Next was the interior, not much wrong, just had some stitching repaired on the seats and a colour refurb of all the leather bits, they all came up rather nice I think.

On to the most interesting bit, It was back on the dyno last week. When I arrived the baseline run showed I was only getting 300 bhp, not the 360 I had when it last left the dyno. the missing ponies were a result of the boost being turned down, this turned out to be a result of my dash gauge calibration being out by 4 psi ( I had fiddled with the ECU settings to try and get closed loop boost control working).
Anyway, after a couple of hours on the rollers I was pleased to see it was had hit my target... whoopee. 402 bhp and 440Lbft torque (=600Nm). It feels nice.
Other point of interest, we done back to back runs with my 3 inch exhaust bypass valve open/closed, result and extra 50bhp with it open (rest of the system is 2.5 inch)
Still not totally happy with the lag though, thats this winters project. Or maybe I'll spray the body first.
