I think we should all get together and meet up with a few of these loss adjusters and give them some attitude adjustment

I have a bit of experiance with this type of thing as i have worked in the crash repair industry for the last 30 years, your ins company will have total lossed the car because of possible problems later on, with the car having water ingress sometimes the wiring harness can corrode from the inside and after a period of time cause shorts and then fires. Ecus, that get wet can work ok initialy but when fully dried out corrosion can set in and cause all kinds of probs. Im not saying that will happen for sure but the ins company will air the side of caution. If you want to keep the salvage fight to get the cat changed to C as sometimes they put destruction orders on vehicles issued with A,B catagories, and dont always let you keep salvage retention on a cat B. what an absolute shame to lose an rs2 in this way im gutted for ya bud, simon.

It is the fire risk from unseen electrical damage that they are worried about.
I don't think you will be able to stop it being classified but certainly fight to the bitter end for the salvage on it.

What I would do is then take the pay-out money, buy another ropey RS2, use any parts from you need from the salvage car to tidy it up, give it the respray you would have had anyway and sell off the unused parts from the salvage car. Then you end up with a mint RS2, a ropey car gets saved and given some love and you make a load of money back off the salvage from the classified car helping more cars to live on.

Yeah maybe a fraction. But the story you told was above the roof rails

Water damage is often placed as a cat B write-off.

Happened to my first S2 ten years ago

They made it a cat b total loss saying the water could have been contaminated. Insurance payed out and I got to keep car but it can only be used for parts. I took sone of the seats out and they cleaned up good. Will get round to stripping it soon. Think i will keep an eye out for another as I will have a lot of good spare parts.

Shame that least they paid out and more importantly you got to keep the car.
