What size are the s2 ones 55mm? I could do with a set too, so when you find them keep us updated.

I spoke to a chap at compbrake yesterday and asked about some 55mm coilover sleeves and he kindly measured a few sets up for me and popped them into the post for me and they arrived today. Very pleased with them, good build quality and seem well plated for protection. Couldn't praise the compbrake service high enough either, very helpfull and fast.

There the type that take the 2.5" springs

They fit great with no extra grinding or anything. Gonna blast the struts then etch them and weld the collars on then fully paint them. Just need to work out spring lenghts and weights now.

And can anyone recommend some decent shocks that would be suitable for a good 60mm+ lowering?

      Thanks,

These struts are left over from my v6 coupe so I'm presuming they'll be exactally the same as s2 ones mate.

What spring rates are you going to use? Going to do something similar on mine and not sure about rates - should I go 200lbs or something softer for a 4 cylinder engine.

I received a whole mass of parts today from Grant aka FRED on here, couldn't praise him enough, everything packaged very well and was willing to ship a whole interior, front n rear bumpers, side skirts amongst other things. Cheers mate! I restore air cooled VW's for a living and I've never received this many parts in mass before haha.

It took me hours to unpack everything today too

Going to drop the seats off to the trimmers tomorrow to get the drivers bolster and a fag burn repaired then ill have one mint interior to replace my mouldy corduroy one

I also managed to get my front struts blasted so ill be welding the coilover tubes on and giving them a lick of paint

One think to check with the coilovers is how much of the shock thread comes out the top cap for the kit. I have a kit and its having to be modded to let more thread come out to allow it to bolt on more safely.

Ill be cutting the coilover sleeve short of the top cap threads and welding it top and bottom, it won't just be sandwich'd between the steering arm an top cap like I've seen elsewhere.

its not that bit thats the issue.

its on the actual shock, the thread that goes in the inner wing and in bolted on inside the engine bay, we found our top caps need the inside machining to let them sit slightly lower on the shock and more thread protrude.

Ahhh I get ya! The spring cap. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, we have a machine shop next door so I can get it sorted.

Glad it took you hours to unpack in all, seems only fair as it took me hours to package it all up.

Hot jet washed my S2 bumpers down today to blast the moss off them and I couldn't help but fit them up to check for fitment before paint.

What a difference a big chunk of plastic makes my cars face now has a chin haha

                          Rear went on too.

I need to have a look in my box of bits but I think I'm missing the pieces that bolt to the sides of the car that hold the sides of the bumpers on. The S2 ones are different to the 80 slide on ones. If anyone can confirm this that would be great.

Had a solid day on the wagon today. Got all the interior stripped out and the electric rear window motors fitted and made a start on the wiring..... What a total basta*d of a job running the loom is! My back and knees are wrecked and I've got the worst carpet burn on my elbow from spending most of the time in the drivers side footwell.

Gonna finish up the window wiring tomorow and pick up the seats from the trimmers and get the new interior all in hopfully. Got a lot of cleaning of the carpets, headliner and seat belts to do first as there all super mouldy!
