    1980 UR 20v Conversion

    Hi guys
I am helping a pal of mine put a 20v AAN into his 1980 UR quattro. We have a complete S6 as the donor vehicle. I have done a search for info on this as i am sure this has been done many many times before but I have only found little snippets of information on it?

I am not looking for a walk through guide but more of a few pointers of key areas to consider / research further. (or maybe any links to helpful threads i have missed?)

Ideally he has an appetite to keep the S6 6 Speed box but obviously this will need to be matched to the rear diff (assuming it will physically fit)

Any help would be gratefully received

    Thanks

We've got an AAN into a Rallyrep Type 85 CQ which, considering the level of changes, is marginal. Main points to note are the (if its an auto engine), the removal of the metal flywheel shim inside the crankshaft output, the management of the air cooling if you keep the AAN inlet manifold, as we did, and the heat management around the turbo... Beyond that, there are about 12 wires that need controlling from the AAN ecu into the KV/Ur loom... Don't ask which ones, because its distant memories now, but its mainly triggering fuel etc... Also, don't forget later S6 had key match immobilisation which will need de-activation. Spink on here is the chap to speak to, he converted our AAN S6 Auto immobiliser ECU into 300bhp manual Rallycar ECU with love...

      Hi Ian
Thanks for the info, that's very helpful thanks. We want to keep the 6 speed manual box so it i'll need to see if the S6 diff (inners) to migrate over the the UR diff casing to maintain the overall drive ratio.

We intend to keep the AAN IM as is seems fundamentally a good design, however we'll be making custom IC and piping as i am sure space will be at a premium in the engine bay.

I think we'll have to take a similar approach to cooling too as I don't think the UR's were over engineered in that department in the first place.

My real concerns were / are the physical fitment of the 6 speed box to the drive train and the remaining space for ancillary IC's and coolant radiators but i guess there's only one real way to find that out.

      Cheers!

I would have thought you need a ABY sub frame, if you are using the ANN engine and box you should leave the spacer if it has one, the later ones do not

        Maybe need a sump too
