Hi guys,
This is kind of a continuation from Lee Whitehead's thread, as he was the previous owner, found here...
I bought the car from Lee after having a good read through his thread to see the work that had been carried out, and to give me a clue what the car would need moving forward. I'm happy to report that the conversion (carried out by Aidan at AutoBahn) has been done well, with only a few minor niggles to sort in order to make it perfect. I'm not going to go into detail what has been done, as it has been well documented in Lee's thread.
I happened to stumble across this car after looking for something a little different. I have a history of fast and exciting cars (900bhp Skyline Drag Car, 660bhp Impreza Sti RA Time Attack Car, plus more), but didn't want something lairy and in your face as A) you can't park them anywhere without attracting the wrong sort of attention, and B) I'm apporaching that age where I look like a bit of a tool driving around in something that screams "look at me"!! I had a Saab 9000 Aero last year that was running over 360bhp that was completely nuts and a huge amount of fun, but you could park it at Tesco's and nobody would bat an eyelid, so i was looking for something similar, and Lee's car fitted the bill perfectly.
And here she is (apologies for the bad picture quality!)...

So, on to the car. I am aiming to rebuild the engine and change the turbo for something larger in the long run, but first there are a few little jobs to do on the car to get it perfect. Since owning the car, I have replaced the nearside front caliper as it had seized, replaced the brake pads, and I have also re-fitted the front S2 ABY Leather seats that I bought off Lee as part of the deal (Rear S4 leather and US Audi 80 door cards to follow too). The jobs to do so far are:
- Find a new auxilliary belt to replace the one that is on the car, as it's about 50mm too long so the tensioner is at the end of it's travel and knocks against the bracket, causing a slight rattle.
- Find a new accelerator cable that's slightly longer, as the one on the car is a bit too short and tight.
- Re-think the engine mounts on the car, as it currently uses a bit of a mixture, meaning that there's just a little bit more movement than I would like, especially if it's going to be running more power.
- There's a small gouge on the bonnet and a small hole in the Kamei front bumper from a piece of debris that will need addressing.
- Relocate the battery to the boot to free up even more space in the engine bay (I plan on mounting water injection there.
I hope I can make this thread as interesting as Lee's, and i promise to put up lots of pictures along the way.
And for anyone that's interested, here's a few pics of my race cars...
