Here is the simpler version of the pulley.
I feel a little stupid not having thought at this layout before....
would also have saved a bit of time if I had this one made instead of the previous version....
Lets say I was in a hurry, badly needing it for firing my new engine, so didn't have the chance to better think about it .....

    Anyway here the drawings:

AFAIK the hall sender works as a gate for the 62deg flywheel TDC sensor. TDC sensor must be given within the hall gap or otherwise a) the car won't start b) when running the ignition will be retarded 6 deg as a safety measure.

This is the thing in 3B, can not tell for sure if the DF engines act like this too. Don't yet know if the 6 deg is a constant for the whole map or is some other ignition map used (there are lots of those...)

The problem is that it's hard to tell when the engine is at its 62 deg mark without some work. Oscilloscope, degree disk etc etc...

Of course pickup disk is fixed to the gear.

By the way, anyone here free to use those drawings for any (legal.... ) purpose they wish.

That was a reply to this one. I should have quoted it the first time...

Hmm, using the "gate" example on the DF engines, if it is, I would think when the hall sender signal doesn't overlap the VR pin (62deg btdc), it would be much worse than retared 6deg. AFAIK, the DF ecu won't know crank position, and therefore wouldn't know which cylinder to fire at all, no?

That's using the strict definition of a(n "and") "gate"; so if DF cars still run in this condition perhaps the ecu still uses the 62deg pin signal if the hall is out of sync, in that case the safety retarding could be. I guess it must if the DF cars retard timing and still run.

Regarding telling what the crank position is, isn't it possible to count teeth from the pin to see where the motor is (while it's static)? Or, do you mean while it's running or something? If it is static, couldn't the motor be turned slowly while checking the VR sensor for it's signal when the pin is there, and then adjust the hall sensor so that it is centered? Lol, I say adjust in the sense of a 3B where the distributor can be turned. I guess it's not that simple with the pulley style setups. I did read that there's not adjustability for that in the stock pulley.

Gosh, I was having some issues posting just now.

The 6 deg retardation is a documented feature on 3B engines, haven't read the corresponding document for DF engines so I don't know.

I guess it's because of timing belt jumps?! Only downside would otherwise be that the motronic would not know if the engine is on its compression or exhaust phase so it would have to spark (and probably does!) every round.

There is only 1 62deg pin so it does know which cyl is which by counting the starter ring teeth by using the rpm sensor as it always does. And the pin is at the flywheel (I guess you knew).

And adjusting ment just that. Maybe mentioning the oscilloscope was too much said because a dmm will tell when the 62deg pin is at position.. Counting teeth is also a way to go. There are 135 of them IIRC.

Now my friend finally got hold of his Catcam adjustable pulley. This has been ordered as an "ADU" gear....

Didn't have it in my hands (my friend sent me those pics), but doesn't look right to me:

offste doesn't look right, while there is no pickup disk. Definitly not a straight forward fit
