Coupe 70mm Turbo back exhaust system

Just finishing the exhaust system of the car.

Here in Spain there is no shop that makes custom exhaust (only some racing shops) so I tried to make it as "of the self" as possible.

    Parts used:
    - 70mm Marco's Downpipe (Thanks Marco for your excelent work )
    - HJS Racing cat (100 cells)
    - www.Bn-pipes.de 70mm cat back system without the "y" piece.

This is what it's in the car now.

    - Left a 70mm SS 304 connection between the CAT and the Bn-pipes system, around 60cmm long. Will be done on monday.

So here are some crappy phone pics.
Will have better pics on Monday

      Pic of the CAT.

Started the car like that. Great sound

I was tempted to keep it that way

The lambda you see there is the old one. Placed for testing because I did not have the correct bolt to block the hole (came with the cat assembly)

      Cheers,
      Rafael

I honestly don't know, Pipe looks the same as Marco downpipe in SS 304 but boxes are really shinny much more than you see on the pics

I think everything is SS #304

You should add something between the DP and cat to make the exhaust flexible.

I am building a mount for the CAT to the chasis similar to the OEM setup.

I am not sure I have space for a flexi pipe.
Are you saying this for a case where the CAT hits a bump?

              Thanks,

It would be recommended in any case to have one. Audi original is quite pitiful. It's only those 3 springs at the first connection.

By installing a flex part you can avoid cracks at: EM, turbine housing, downpipe. These are expensive parts compared to the flexi so I recommend you to consider this...

Thanks I will think about it.
                  I know you are right.

That HKS cat in nice and compact !

Agree with concerns about flex joints... It would be worthwhile !

Can you mention costs of what is involved here ?

Another thing to consider is the boost-aware exhaust bypass pipe - like what Soern tested. It would give you a much less restrictive system when on boost than the 70mm pipes you have. I think 70mm is adequate for RS2 spec'd systems on the Coupe as there are clearance issues at 3inches (76mm).

                      Paul

                      Costs are as follow.

Marco's downpipe (ask Marco a.k.a. Pisobiker)
                      HKS CAT around 500€
BN-PIPES Cat back system 800€ with a nice discount and without the "y" piece.

Expensive but I found no way of making a custom system here.

I am going RS2 setup and no more (damm this forum for making me upgrade everything ) this is why I choosed 70mm setup good enough for RS2 setup and without any clearence issues and also I found the Bn-pipes system in this measure.

Paul, no idea what you are talking about (Boost-aware... ) please explain.

If money were no objet I would go with the following Setup:

SuperSprint downpipe and Cat assembly in 70mm (1200 € ) and then the Bn-pipes system. Not because Marco's downpipe is no good. I think is better than the supersprint one, but because their Cat solution is more compact and you won't get any clearence issues (see pic)

Yes, but it has to allow more movement than when fitted before the cat.

Try a hydraulic parts selling shop. They probably sell a stainless flexi pipe with braided reinforcement. Probably not super cheap.
