ABY rear diff internals info please

    Gents and others.

Would someone have info on the placement of internals on the rear diff?

I have put my rear diff back together and have a shim left out but I don't know where it goes.

    Thanks in advance

It goes behind one of the crown wheel carrier bearings. The bearings on the side of the diff that the stub axles go thru. Most important as without shim in place there will be excessive gear clearance leading to noise leading to gear failure. If you can measure the thickness with a micrometer it may help to determine which side it came from. One of the side bearing shims is a fixed value that the setup measurements are based from

Iam trying to avoid taking the new big seal back out and ruining it so just trying to see which side it goes into.

It is less than 1mm in thickness, 50mm outer and 45mm inner hole.

I already told you where they go Taff
Pull the flanges out, place washer on flange shoulder, refit flange. Tighten bolt, from memory there is a torque angle setting too

The shim has now been fitted to the flange and new bolts used to attach flange to diff.

Now the diff does not turn by hand

Are there any pics or anything of exactly where the shim is supposed to go?

Were any of the bearing races removed from their places?

Guys I appreciate everyones help once again on this great forum.

Iam a fool and left one shim out and put another in the wrong place (distracted by the dog trying to attack someone).

I have been kindly sent the information required and once again to all.

All the insides were remove to be cleaned as had swarf in the gearbox, it all went back together (apart from one shim) and worked ok by hand untill I took the flanges out again.

I don't think Taff pressed the races out of the casing/cover, so the pre-load shims wouldn't have been affected
