You call it "survival". I call it slow torturous death. You're killing it little by little. Death by a thousand cuts. If is was a horse, the Society for the Prevention of Animals would be intervening and saving the horse from further abuse.
Sorry.

I think owner is having good fun with it.What should it do with the car?Spend 20k and fully restore it?When no part are available(headlights, fogs, bumpers etc, etc, etc) to buy?
That is not a car to restore. That is a car to have fun with.Cheap fun. What should he use to play his "game"?S2,lancer evo, impreza? And pay 5 to 10k after every crash and engine failure?
Have fun!!Comment

You probably know this but...
With an adjustable cam gear (and especially on a single cam system) you can move the RPM where the peak horsepower occurs. Retarding the cam moves the power peak to a higher RPM which gives the engine more top-end performance albeit at the expense of some loss of bottom-end torque. Advancing the cam moves the power peak to a lower RPM and fattens up the lower RPM torque, all at the expense of higher RPM power. Overall, you might not make any more hp but you can control when you get it. This can be useful for certain situations, e.g. autoslaloming probably works better with an advanced cam. (I did this back in the early 1980's when I autoslalomed my hot rodded 1980 Jetta (big valve head, Weber big throat, tube header, Leistritz exhaust). Won my class in 1985.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan
