After 13 years on the forum I think it's about time to give my S2 it's own thread
The car: it is a 1995 coupe with the rare Abt C5 body kit. This is how she looks now (OK, OK, this is how she looked a year ago when we were in Scotland):
The story started some 13 years ago when i was searching for a nice mid size quattro I had been looking for an S2 for some time, but they were either overpriced at dealers or bad examples with clocks turned back from shady traders so I had expanded my search to include e.g a V6 A4. But luck was with me when my daily search resulted in a hit from a nearby convertible specialist who had traded it in on a 911: a very nice S2, low mileage, and a fair price. This is how she looked in the ad:
me and my wife did not need much time in the test drive te decide, this was our next car. So we handed over a stack of euro's and could call ourselves the proud owner of an Audi S2 at last
apart from spending the equivalent of a net Golf on the Abt kit (body, suspension, chip) the first owner was wise enough to equip it with cloth Recaros and a full black interior (incl headlining) and a nice Pioneer radio/cd changer.
another photo from short after purchase:
and yes, that little girl is my daughter, now almost 20yr old....
put it on a rolling road:
result:
Soon I started to improve a bit more: changed the wiper arms for ones from a Passat35i, so they sit lower when in rest:
next was the stereo: the radio was fine, but it still had the standard speakers. so I put a compo set (Peerless) in the front:
and a small woofer in the boot:
needed winter tyres:
and after having changed the Abt OZs for Superlegeras:
I finally did the right thing and upgraded to Porsche brakes:
Apart from this, I already had collected some more upgrades, all within the theme: "Audi should have made the S2 this way out of the factory and not half baked", hence the name of this (probably never ending) project.
In 2012 It was time for the 1st part of this (the under the bonnet department), which I'll report on in a next post.
