    Some Advice Audi Purchase

Just got home now from Bradford (342mile round trip), been looking at an Mreg S2 (one In picture.)

The guy wanted £6k for it with 124k miles but when i looked at it it had a few obvious problems:

There was a cable disconnected above the main throttle cable (i think) it could be the cruise control can anyone confirm this? If so is it Expensive to replace?

also the car was cutting out at 3-4 thousand revs under acceleration and then running poorly/missing from then on.......

other than that it was okish (6-10), I offered the guy £4800 for it and will probably get it inspected tomorrow.

I know this also sounds stupid but there was a pipe missing from the top of the actuator, surely it would not even accelerate if the was no vaccum pipe on the actuator?

Has anyone seen this car before? (one in picture) Reg No M*** TVU

    Cheers
    Steve.
(I know most people would walk away, but at £4800 i would be willing to spend up to £2k to get it right.....)

Acceleration problem could be any number of things! How did he try to explain it?

Do you mean the Wastegate? If it looked like this it is fine. There should be no pipe from that brass spiggot it just vents to atmosphere.

Sorry, i'm a bit of a novice with S2's at the moment

LPHUK2002.. . . . You're right about the wastegate thats exactly what i was looking atops: ops:

when it was accelerating up to 3 thousand revs it cut off boost then after a second or so it tries to build up speed again but runs like a bag of S***E!
Could maybe be a sensor or overboost cut off?

But When the car is started the dashboard window says OK

Might give this one a miss unless anyone knows the car???

could quite possibly be a boost leak, theres lots of small diameter pipes running around back of inlet manifold plus the main ones from turbo/intercooler etc, or the intercooler o-ring which is costs a few pence but needs bumper removing to get at, if you can pull the fault codes it may point you in the right direction...the info for that is on s2central site.

at least your looking at the right version
none of this avant malarkey:nana: :nana:

Be wary of your 2k budget for repairs. I did this with my avant (£3175 for the car, 2k to play with). Soon goes out of the window when you start looking at something and think I'll change that for a better one etc. Mine went something like:

          Broken ARB droplink = RS2 ARB's
          Leaky Shock = RS2 bilsteins
Knackered intercooler = RS2 Intercooler and crossmember

          You get the picture.

Doesn't sound as though there is a lot wrong with the one you looked at though, as said before probably a boost leak, so you could be onto a winner.

One thing I did notice when I had a boost leak (IC O-ring) was that if I floored the throttle in second gear I could hear the turbo whine increase in pitch then dip down slightly and seconds later overboost cut out occured.

Now with the IC mod in place the whine increases upwards. I can't say to what pitch because a some point my brain tansferes all available resources to my eyes and hands and I pretty much don't notice anything other than the rev counter and the narrowing road ahead.

Don't know if all "overboosting" cars do this and you have to listen pretty hard to hear the turbo, but may help to pinpoint the problem.

I have a small leak - doesn't cause cut out but the boost drops away quicker than it should and I'm convinced I can hear it. The turbo winds up, it gets to full boost there is a very small stutter (as the leak starts) and then a wooshing noise as the boost drops.

I'll sort it -one day it only started when I had it chipped and the increased boost has found a less than perfect pipe somewhere.
