Need Some Info Perleese!!!!!

Hi and Happy New Year......

Just wondering if i could ask you more knowledgeable S2 blokes (than me) some questions, i'm wanting to upgrade my motor and was thinking this would be a good place to start!!!!!

I have a 94 ABY Coupe.....

First, my headlights are CRAP!!!!! i can hardley see anything at night, mind as my car was imported from germany i have had to put some tape over the lights for MOT so as i dont blind peeps, does anybody have a set of lights Standered/Elipsoid WHY or can i upgrede the bulbs??????

Second, The brake's are'nt the best, is it difficult to upgrade the brakes, Cheaplyish????


Third, i expect you some of you guys have this problem, my white speedo background has come off and i keep havin to cut it so that the needle will move on the speedo, its looks a right mess at the mo, Know where i can get some new stickers, or a new speedo?????

fourth, would'nt mind gettin some more power too, anyone know where i could get it chipped???? not massivly as i still want realiability maybe up to 300bHP??? have been told the engine can cope ok with this, i have a different induction system....

I think thats all i wanted to ask at the mo, sure i'll think of something else soon, oh anyone have a RS2 Mesh Grille, like the look of them!!!!!!

Also forgot to ask, how easy is it to upgrede the suspension??? maybe adjustable shocks????

headlights - ebay usually has some early lights - ellipsoids are a bit like gold dust 2nd hand.
brakes - better pads - mintex? or porsche 996 upgrade
speedo - ebay breakers every so often or just keep trimming
chips - MRC - look up mihnea / doug
grille - again v rare 2nd hand - best bet is Martyn @ VAGPARTS.com

You could look at HID'S, anything from £155 - £280


The brake's are'nt the best, is it difficult to upgrade the brakes.
You need a budget of about £500 for the Porsche upgrade that most of us have.

If you have a 94 ABY Coupe, then you already have Ellipsoids. If this is the case, you do not need to tape them for the MOT. Have a read in your owners manual and you will find that the Ellipsoids have an adjuster lever for left/right side driving. All you have to do is move this lever to the other setting and you will have UK spec lights

Upgrading to the latest Xenon H1 bulbs will give you some increase in light for about £15. Theoretically you can change the main beams to 100W xenons, since they are a seperate bulb, assuming the wiring can take it...I did it years ago in an old Audi 80 but have not tried in the S2 so cannot comment about whether it is advisable.

After that I think you are into HID upgrades which seem to be between £150 and £300 depending on the amount of light you want.

All you have to do is move this lever to the other setting and you will have UK spec lights

Si, moving the lever just flips up a shield inside the lamps. Doing so with German elipsoids would give you a LHD beam pattern with an extra section shielded off - even less light on the road!

It would get you through an MOT though I believe.

I'm pretty sure that my lights are not elipsoids, dont they have like a blue ball type looking thing, ( not very tech i know ) inside the light????? if so i dont have this, my car is an L reg and says it was registered in 1998 in the uk, so maybe it is older than i think, which would explain no elipsoids!!!!!!! do you know what year the ABY came out????

The ABY was introduced in November 1992 but the ellipsoids didn't appear until the start of the 1994 MY which is Aug 1993

That'd be a 1993/94 car (hence the age related 'L' plate),
- imported to the UK (and first registered) in 1998.
