  • LEFT Rear caliper desperately wanted ASAP

To cut a long story short, my left rear caliper is heaviy seized up (UK passenger side).

Whilst I'm collecting parts for a vented rear disc conversion, I need to get the car thru its MOT on Friday. If anyone in the UK or IE can let me borrow a caliper for a few weeks it would save me a great deal of grief. It will be returned when I complete the conversion job.

I can throw in a set of rear discs and pads (with a few weeks mileage on them) for the kind soul that can help me here.

I'm only going to have sketchy access to the forum on Wednesday - but if somebody can help then please PM me ASAP. If you already know my mobile number then please call me - I want to get the car thru the MOT this week otherwise getting to next weeks garage meet will be a greater challenge than I'd like !!!

    Cheers,

    Paul

Oh deluged with offers I was (not)...

Anyway - after a good fight with the offending sticky caliper, some laborious bedding in and a 200 mile trip to Dublin and back I appear to have nicely balanced rear brakes again... Whats more the handbrake is great on the nasty side. I shouldn't fail the MOT for that at least.

Hows about a Guinness or few in sunny Belfast then ?

A celebratory Guinness that is - the car passed the MOT - fantastically relieved.

The brake tests are heavily computerised in NI with a proper 4-wheel test rig. The tester was obviously in a good mood. As soon as the brake difference showed on the rears I told him about the sticky caliper. There was about 30% difference on the handbrake but he tried a few times knowing how to work the system so that the computer passed the test. He could see the new rear discs, and I showed him the new rear calipers in the boot ready to go on so he was cool about helping the car pass the brake test.

No sweat on headlight washers at all - thank goodness.

The test rig here measures axle weights, now get this ----

Weight on front axle was 1054kg
        Weight on rear was 715kg

Now OK both me and the tester were onboard and we've each had a few too many pies but that is shockingly heavy.

So relieved now - wheres that bottle opener
