    Standard S2 Avant Springs WANTED

    Hi,

I want to replace the H&R springs currently fitted to my S2 Avant with a standard set. Has anyone got some they want to sell or swap with my H&R's? Let me know...

Why are you looking to go back to standard springs?

I guess it's all personal taste. The best handling car I ever had was a MkI Scirocco Storm. This had standard springs with gas shocks; a great combination. I think it's much better to have standard springs with stiffer shocks, the H&R set-up is just too bouncy (lack of control) for my local country roads. I want to put the standard springs back on and then experiment wth different shocks later.

As far as I understand it, the car just sits on the springs and shocks give the car control. I stand to be corrected, of course...

I changed from my 9 year old standard springs and shock absorbers last year, to H&R's and RS2 shocks. Two of my original shocks were leaking slightly ( i never knew this until i removed them), so i guess they needed replacing. Handling was vastly improved and i would never go back to standard springs.

          Just my 2p worth.

I've had both H&R and Koni springs, sold them both. I've now got Bilstein shocks with standard springs and it's the perfect setup for me.

City roads are IMO too rough for H&R or Koni / Bilstein setup. Koni shocks would be better.

How much does a set of Bilstein shocks cost and are they a straight swap for the standard units or does it involve a complete new suspension arm?

Straight swap but i dont think you can get Bilstein rears for the Avant. Most Avant owners go RS2 shocks or Koni shocks

Your down south maybe you could go for a spin in S2Avant95m motor if he can get the keys of his wife!

Mines SORN too whilst I do all this suspension. How do I undo the QRSport top mounts? I'm stuck at this point. Now it's bank holiday and I've got family things to do instead. Bummer!!!!!!

Jamo - are you using Bilstein B6 Sports with standard springs ?
Doesn't this give a bit of an 'S2 Allroad' effect by raising the ride height considerably?

                        Suspension

                        Hi,

I've just changed my S2 Avant back to standard springs as the H&R's were too low and hard for the crap roads here. I have left the Konis on, the car goes round corners much better now. I am sure that if the roads were good most would see this as a step in the wrong direction, but here it seems to work well.

I bought the new standard springs from Quattro Corner. They were great!!!!
Don't let the *astards get you down!!

Could not agree more. Here in Edinburgh the roads are in a dreadful state. I have gone koni (set up correctly) on the S2 and the RS2 with standard springs. Perfect compromise.

This of course was Colin Chapman's (he of Lotus fame) method which produced some of the best handling cars ever.

My only question is if I should replace the standard springs ever ?? Do they really soften ?? Has anyone replaced springs (without other mods at the same time)??

Not on the S2 but changed springs on my Coupe quattro after 200k miles. Increased the height by about an inch so the originals were obviously soft.
