    Welcome aboard, Andy.

I would personally go for a Coupe quattro rear diff. Same as the Coupe S2 unit, only difference is the S2 unit has larger drive flanges, easily changed over.

Code will be AEC (5 cylinder 90 / Coupe quattro) with same final drive as all S2's. It's worth bearing in mind that the same code applied to type 85 Coupe quattro, but of course, they'll be older.

Get one from a 1990 Coupe quattro - as it's from a non S - car, it'll have had an easier life. The S2 unit is no stronger or weaker than the AEC fitted to non S - cars.

        Delta,

Interesting about the CQ rear diff. Are they more common (ie easier to find) than the S2 rear diff?? I need one - why?:

Stick the car in neutral, handbrake on, and the prop can be rotated about 1/8 turn! It's hard to make a quick gearchange without thumping. Pop it in gear and it doesn't budge so can only assume that narrows it down to play in the diff (diff mount changed, 'box mounts are ok).

        Cheers

Aye, Coupe quattro rear diffs are easier to find than S2-specific units.
