You will be lucky to find Boge OEM shocks they have been obsolete for many years. I looked around a couple of years ago and came up blank. In the end I went for Koni at the front & KYB in the rear. Think Bilstein still make them as well, but when I was looking they were on a very long lead time. -
Anything used will be well based there best, I got bunch of struts last year which I have been refurbishing, and not 1 of the 7 shocks I removed was in good condition, either the shaft has rust/pitting, seal failed or just no rebound . There will be no issue use shocks from Koni or Bilstein as they are covered by the struts no one will know they are not factory

KYB are good quality and close to OE. Not too firm like koni or bilstein. I used them on my Urs6 project and quality is top notch.Nothelle S2 Avant

I received one offer for used stock Boge shocks and price was not too bad, if pictures confirm that they are in decent condition, I think I will take my chances with them. If that does not work I will always have the Bilstein and Koni option available

On no. That's unfortunate.
Ok, I did have a pair of front Boge S2 inserts in working condition but I gave them to my friend. He is convinced they will fit in his 80 Quattro v6 struts but I am convinced they will not. Anyway, if they don't, they will be back soon and you can have them. Then you can fit those front and kyb rear

Thanks Dave! I also think that the 55mm S2 shocks will only fit into S2 strut, any other model has the 50mm strut/shock.On no. That's unfortunate.

Fortunately tradition has oe rear shocks in stock, so maybe I will go with them

When I was talking about the 50mm I was talking about the OD of the shock it's self. I have a 895413503C (S2 coupe rear) in front of me it was one of 7 shocks removed the struts I have all of which have failed due to various faults.

If you can find new old stock from tradition then it's a good option. However when I was looking for some OEM shocks for my 95 A4 I found some on eBay, they were old shock that had been on a shelf for maybe 10+ years. When I received them the seals had started to fail due to age I'm guessing, as there was a very slight leak from them.Comment

I have actually never measured the diameters myself, just have read that the S2 ones are referenced as 55mm without even knowing where the measurement was taken
Good info about the actual shock diameters.
You are right about the new but old stock parts. I can imagine that shock absorbers won't get any better sitting on shelf for years. I wonder if Audi gives warranty to nos parts?Comment

For the 50/55 measurements they come from the suspension strut. I had a nightmare when first looking for my Coupe as there was talk about 50 & 55mm with the S2 being 55 mm and for the life of me I could not find 55mm shocks
It was only when I took the suspension apart and took some measurements did I then understand.

I have no idea about warranty could not see much on the tradition site about it.Comment
