I'm wondering why the electrics for the indicators seem to be causing an issue in the hazard light switch because the switch we just fitted was brand new from euro car parts, maybe just cheap coppies

Could simply be a poo part as you say, especially if worked briefly then failed.... The only other thing that could cause problems with the hazards and indicators is the switch in the stalk getting really dusty. Anyway if you want genuine replacement I can pop one on the post tomorrow FOC.

Somehow the indicators pass through the cluster as sometimes mine stop altogether and a gentle tap on the cluster top always sorts it.

I didn't know that mate.... Simply assumed the wiring for the indicators/hazards past through the fuse box, then the stalks and the switch. Though thinking about they must be connected to the cluster somehow for the warning bulbs to work.
