WANTED Audi S2 Avant (maybe a S2 coupe?)

looking for an S2 avant, would prefer Emerald Green, but would consider anything.

I should have about £3k to spend, or looking to swap my MK1 Golf Cabrio

The Golf has had loads done to it, over £2k spent on new hood (electric), FK Coilovers, Ronal Turbo's with Toyo's, Nakamichi CD Player (£400 on it's own), New Kent Cam with some headwork, jetex exhaust, 75k from new, loads and loads of history, or I would sell the Golf for £3k o.n.o

Let me know what you got.

    Cheers

    Stevie

I seriously doubt you'll get a good example of an S2 in your price range.

Unless you go for a 3B Coupe :mischeif:

3b's cheap now then is it the poor relation of the S2 clan? Come on Jamo, some of use can't afford to bolt up serious toys to ours due to other commitments like family and mortgages, doesn't mean it looks shabby or should go for silly money...there are fantastic looking and performing 3bs on here and probably up for sale, they don't all go for pocket money.

            Ahem....rant over

To be honest at £3k you looking at something which probably has no/dubious history and/or loads of work needed OR just a car which is basically tidy but has done plenty of miles. If it's the later you *MAY* just get yourself a bargain. If there is proof to support its mileage in terms of money spent then should be ok.

Make sure you take someone who knows what to check for or do you homework before you start the hunt. Good luck...

Thanks for all the PM's,replies and the nice welcome, appriciate the advice.

I know for £3k, I am perhaps not going to get the very best example. I would look at a Coupe, but Avant would be the perfect. Me and the wife have just had a baby and the Golf is a little impractical even though she is a second car, but I need

My mate Fourcircle on here bought an S2 and it has totally turned my head, the performance and road holding is amazing..Well impressed.

I would prefer a swap, but I might stick the Golf up on Ebay and see how she goes.

Anything else drop me a PM.

              Cheers

Due to the fact the 3B are the earlier cars they can be picked up cheaper. About 3 years ago there was a 3k price difference between an ABY and 3B now days there isn't that much of a difference.

Now back to normality, yes 3B's are the cheap seats

It's a shame as for a budget of 4.5k you could pick up some serious good Avant's An 96 reg went on here for that price bracket.

Time is money, money is time. The longer you can afford to shop around the better chance of picking up a bargain.

There is one on Pistonheads for close to £3k at the moment. It will probably need some TLC though

How about moving up a size and looking for a C4 chassis S4 or S6 avant? Those go for considerably less money than an equivalent age S2, and still offer plenty of 20v 5-cyl turbo quattro fun!

Usually a few on Autotrader for under £4k ....

I sold my URS6 at the start of the year. I was very very underwhelmed with the car.

Auto box really ruined it, sapped all the power from the engine and the 14MPG was getting a little hard to live with...Miss her though, she was a very capable car and great on a run...

Ah right .. didn't realise you'd come from UrS6 ownership already! Looks like a great example there - shame that the performance wasn't what you expected. I must admit I'm still mightily pleased with the way that my manual S4 goes (especially now I've replaced the WGFV). Official figures suggest that the S4/6 is only about 0.4 of a second behind the S2 to 60? There is the small matter of all that extra weight when the going gets twisty though ...

Not sure if it's the fact that it's a manual (or else I drive like a wuss) but I do seem to get very good fuel consumption out of it. Usually around 26 MPG and as much as 34 MPG on a 240 mile trip down South last weekend.

Good luck in the quest for that S2 avant!
