    Part no. for Lambda probe

    Hi guys,

I'm looking to find the correct lambda probe part number for my 91 3B. I have rung GSF and they currently have two in stock which they are selling for £48, but I just want to make sure they are correct before purchasing one.

    Can anyone help me?

AH yes ofcourse, the 10% discount, thanks Bo!

Jamo, how on earth did you manage to get it for £35?!

In the mean time, I shall try another search to see if I can find the part number.

Right I found this part number from Mike's website:

          034 906 265 C

I'm not sure whether the ABY has a different part number to the 3B though.

Rob I got the genuine lambda from vagparts.com not sure what I paid tho'. You get a forum discount at vagparts as well!

Do you think you suffered from the silicone-in-petrol issue?

Well I checked the price for VAG's price and its higher than GSF even with the 10% Discount.

To be honest I'm just being stingy and want to pay the cheapest price!

In regards to the fuel, yes I reckon its knackered the probe. I've had pretty identical symptons to what you had, i.e. Somedays it will run as smooth as anything, another day it will have rough idle and slightly rough running issues, fuel economy has taken a plunge, the car *sometimes* pops and bangs on lift off when cold (I have it often when its warm but I dont think it should happen when cold) and I have seen the odd puff of black smoke out the back when I put my foot down.

I will be driving my friends 225bhp TT tonight, so if it feels similiar to mine then I know I have some major issues!

They do all sound very familiar symptoms of a duff lambda. Easy to fit, well it is without an airbox

Easy to fit so long as you can get the old one out! Does anyone have any trade tips for shifting a seized one without breaking anything?

Either; Spray some WD on it when cold, or have a go when the exhaust is slightly warm (but not skin-burningly hot). Using a long extension on a decent socket set so that you can put a big bit of leverage via a long arm helps too.

Thanks. Do you use a 'split' socket or cut the cable and use a full socket? Whats the risk of the threads being damaged if I give it serious torque?

Ok just an update for you guys!

One lambda probe later and I am one happy man!!

The car feels alot smoother, MPG has gone up, no plumes of black smoke out the back and it flys like ***** off a shovel now!

It took a little longer than it should of done previously because I have fitted an airbox, so theres something you can have a giggle about Dan!

Oh, and thank you for fitted the old lambda at the correct torque setting and putting copper ease on the thread, it came out no problem at all!

Rob - sounds like you definitely had the bad Tesco fuel contamination then! I remember the huge difference replacing the lambda made to the car's perfromance, glad to hear you've had the same improvements!

Did you pull the ECU fuses to clear any previous adaptations/ error codes by the way? Worth doing if you didn't.

Oh and it is my pleasure to have left you with a correctly serviced car - you'll find many instances of liberal application of copaslip/ torque wrenched bolts. If you're going to do something, might as well do it right?
