Looks like GSF & Europarts aren't worth the boxes they come in then? Thanks for the advice, I shall avoid them like I would a Citroen...
I'm monitoring some on eBay, UK and elsewhere, but, I still don't know the part number for the PAS pump - surely someone must know it? I've done a search on here to no avail (perhaps not looking hard enough!) and online and not much use there either...

Thank you very much, I have just found another part number whilst searching a little harder in THIS thread which was 035 198 049, which Jas11n says is for the pump, so could that be for a different engine code?
If so, does anyone know the definate code for an Avant, ABY engined PAS pump?

035 198 049 is the part number for the seals for the old type pumps fitted between 1980 and 1988. As previously stated the pump you want is 8G0 145 165 X and is £417 plus vat exchange from audi. The seal kit for this pump is 035 198 049 A and is £12.03 plus the vat.

Ahem I don't quote that number, someone else does and you've missed the "A" off the end which is correct for a full seal kit as I say in that thread.
That thread started by me is just for the cross hatched plug and seal.

Meaning a seal kit for the whole pump. Thread is about seals not the whole PAS pump itself.

Just found THIS item on eBay with the description:
REMOVED FROM 94 AUDI 80 COUPE
PART NUMBERS FROM PUMP AS FOLLOWS
8691 955 153
0111708 3.93
054 145 165K 100
The first 3 digits of the part number differ from the one that's listed for an S2, but, would it fit an S2 Avant ABY?

You reckon that could be a worthwhile bid then? Or would the money put into that and effort getting it to fit be better spent on one that will definately fit, even if it costs more?

I've just been offered an S2 PAS pump from a 3b for £70, I'd guess that should be ok or atleast fixable onto an ABY engine? They can't be that different, can they?
But, I have found THIS thread which contains this quote by saltinot
I've got the brackets from both 7A and ABY/ADU in the garage. The 7A/3B/ABY/ADU pumps will all fit in either bracket. However, you'll find that the ABY style bracket will not work with the 7A/3B setup.
Somewhere during production the pumps changed slightly. They went from using a sealing washer(early style) to an O-ring(later style), along with a banjo bolt, for attaching the hydraulic lines. This might explain the difference in the numbers. Physically the pumps are very similar.
So, this is the issue it seems, will this fot an ABY! According to the above, no, but if I were to et the 3b bracket aswell, would that fit an ABY without any issues? This problem is started to drive me crazy
