    Hydraulic Servo & Bomb Wanted!

Hello, seems I'm in need of a new Hyrdaulic Servo for my S2 Avant (what a horrible design it is on this model!) and as I've now got the funds to repair it where would people suggest is a good place to get one? I've tried all my contacts through my Stepdad (owns his own vehicle repair business!) but none can supply that for an S2 or equivalent, so insider knowledge is vital now...

I'd prefer a new one or re-con (if that's possible?) as I don't fancy a used part incase it breaks again (thanks to those who did offer me one though, it was appreciated!) as I don't like the looks of the 2hr+ replacement time, and as it's such a seemingly common problem I doubt I'd trust a used part like that.

Also, whilst I'm at it, any other suggestions on where to get a 'bomb' from - I figured I'd may aswell look into that too - I've been told Paul at www.custom-auto-craft.com does a good price for that, any others?

    Thanks, Kieron

Paul is the cheapest for bombs AFAIK.

TBH changing the servo isn't that bad a job, i tried to find a new one when mine went but the stealer was the only option... £400 odd unfortunately.... hence why i ended up with two used ones instead

      lol cheers Alex,

Nobody else know of any good suppliers for a part like this? An independant specialist maybe so my money doesn't line the pockets of a faceless stealership, it seems a common problem so where does everyone else get theirs from?

I've decided I'll give the 'Bomb' (aka Brake Pressure Accumulator) a try first! The theory being that if the brake pedal's giving resistance & power steering fluid is coming out the top of the filler tank then that means there's a pressure build up somewhere which points to the 'Bomb'.

So, does anyone have the part number for the Brake Pressure Accumulator / Bomb, or even better have one lying around somewhere?

Ok, so the Brake Pressure Accumulator (aka Bomb!) appeared this morning, yes on a Sunday, in the post! Probably the best christmas present I'd had as it had been 2 weeks in the waiting, no fault of Paul's as he said he'd despatched it straight away, Royal Mail presumably, however there was a slight problem...

... it appears it wasn't the 'Bomb' which was broken! As the red (!) sign is still appearing once it's been fitted! The brake pedal is still juddering when pressed and giving a lot of resistance. Does anyone think like me that this now must be the servo? There can't be any other possibilities imo

So, if it is the servo, does anybody else have one available to buy? The car's been off the road for over 4 weeks now and I'm stuck driving a Freelander (atleast it's a TD4 version and not a dreaded K series engine!) so please, help an S2 owner out this Christmas lol

                          Thanks, Kieron

I can almost assure you its the servo. Had the same issue myself and went through replacing everything else BUT the servo, spent a bit too much money really.

I think I even put a youtube video of what mine was.

If you watch 'round 0:23ish and that's what it does, it's the servo mate

On the rally car I have now fitted a vacuum servo (from an Audi 80 Tdi!) using the original brake master cylinder from the standard hydraulic servo. The set up uses two one way (none return) valves. One is for the engine vacuum when throtle is closed and this is enough vacuum for 90% of the time. I have also fitted an electric vacuum pump with its own one way valve (the second). An adjustable vacuum switch turns the pump on when the vacuum drops below a certain level and quickly tops the vacuum up. I also have installed a vacuum gauge to let me know what vaccum I have at all times.
I have used the set up for about 70 road miles so far and the pedal feel is the best ever and the brakes are brilliant. I'm using Mintex F4 bad too!
Next event is North West Stages based in Blackpool. 80 stage miles and 120 road miles, 6 different venues including the Prom at Blackpool and only 2 or 3 services all in one long day. See www.nwstages.co.uk
