  • Wanted 2 part worn 215/45/17 Tyres

    Hello,

Im after a couple of part worn tyres 215/45/17 with maybe 4+ mm tread.

They are just need to tie me over until the new wheels are ready.

My current ones are now running through the first layer off fabric on the outside corner. Not to healthy..

Ideally id like to spend no more than £50.

    Thanks

    Bo

theres a guy on ebay that might be able to sort you out.. they are in Devon, near Exeter i think.... search for Save-on-tyres direct on ebay.
I've bought off them before and they will give you decent brands and matched pairs for good prices, and cheap delivery too

For future reference Save On Tyres are on Grace Road, Marsh Barton. Your end of town Bo. They're usually cheaper than Pro-Tyre round the corner, but don't fit tyres as well as they do IME.
I never take my car to the tyre fitters BTW, I usually just take the wheels in. They can't do as much damage then.

Hmm, i dont know if i can get away with running 215 one end and 225 the other.

Any one know if that would damage the Diff?

Otherwise, yes i would be interested.

Lets assume you run the 225/45 on the rear and 215/45 on the front.

Some believe the sidewall spec is set, it's not.
"45" is the aspect ratio, this is the ratio of the height of the tyre sidewall, (section height), expressed as a percentage of the width.

So, 45% of 225 (225mm wide) is 101.2. That means the sidewall depth is 101.2mm.
45% of 215 (215mm wide) is 98.8. That means the sidewall depth is 98.8mm.

The rolling circumference of the 225 tyre is 1992.7mm
The rolling circumference of the 215 tyre is 1964.4mm,
                That a difference of 28.3mm.

For a given distance of say one mile, the rear will have rotated 808 times while the front will have rotated 819 times. A difference of 11 extra revolutions of the front wheels over the rear.

IMHO, not good for the diff.

Thats all fine and dandy, but what about wear reducing the overall circumference?

I want figures for a new tire and 4mm left, for both sizes! And stat!
