    Std Pistons Wanted.

    Hi People.

Does anyone have a set of new standard pistons for sale at a decent price?
I'm trying to source a new set for my rebuild as i dont want to use my current ones along with all the new internals i've got. Was shocked when i realised how much the stealers wanted for a set!

    Cheers

Are the JE's a direct replacement? Don't know enough about the science of lowering the compression to warrant going down that road (at the moment anyway).

I have gone futher than that but you can get custom psitons to drop the CR and remain standard bore. Also add a few cool extras

82mm is max easiest to do on std HG so makes sense to keep other costs down a little.

Personally I'd clean up the originals with a new piston ring set and bobs your uncle.

I'm having difficulty justifying using the originals... My head says put all new items internally? Will old originals take 450 horses?

Thats why i machine 83mm gaskets for people, i am on my 10th one now...

Standard pistons have been used up to 600bhp by a few people. With a light skim.

All day long, the only thing you have to worry about is the compression ratio to boost ratio.

If you using a 3071 be careful when using standard compression and going over 2 bar boost as you will melt the pistons.

Standard compression ratio with teh metal HG is 9.0:1 correct? What compression ration is required to max out the 3071R?

This is the science bit that i'll need help with. I suppose i'll have to speak with Minhea, explain the set-up i've got and see what he suggests i do?
FTR i've got Wagner im, 3071r and tubular em. I'll be asking MRC to map the engine with caution in mind but if you guys think there's a simple way i can get more out of what i've got then please suggest (and explain ) away!

Cheers as ever for all your comments

Nah you in good hands with MRC, Mihnea will only push the turbo to 2 bar

To be honest you don't need more than that, it's not worth the risk and reduced turbo life.
