Does not sound dodgy to me, just not an S2 unit. However if you are desperate then they will fit and they will work.
What you should have bought was THIS as that is a bargain for a set of S2 clocks, let alone including the aux gauges.
There are a couple of people breaking S2's on ebay at the moment and also a couple on here so contact all those guys, but expect to pay at least what that set went for.

It came from petrol car but it has switch to select diesel or petrol variant.
Thought the switch on the back did the cylinders 4, 5 or 6?
It has animated screen (all events animated with some musical sound)...
wot...bit like a playstation...
If it is cracked, buy it for the bits and stick the plasma dials on it using your good outer case...sorted.

Think I may bid on it for parts cos on my current one the reset button does not work. I had the cluster out a few days ago and forgot to replace the 4 screws holding the main black section onto the back, inc main screen etc. With the screws missing my reset switch suddenly started working, it scrolled though the symbols and then I got the OK and lost the dreaded 53 fault code but now i have replaced them it no longer works. odd.
