hi guys. has anyone got 2 pos pref local to mid wales one of mine when it gets hot it breaks down. as i need the car next week. Cheers guys.

If you are stuck, a brown Hitachi "351" POS from a wasted-spark 2.6 or 2.8 L 12v V6 will work and can probably be had cheaply from a wreckers/breakers if you needed a temporary back-up.
I have a spare brown one I read that thread. but I not sure how long you can run this one (got from breakers) I was looking for cheaper than £115 as things are a bit tight at the moment after spending a load of money on the car in the past few weeks

My bro is running one of those for cylinder 1, 2 and 3. Has done for three years now. Car is a 95 ABY with an MTM chip. No issues so far. The mounting holes aren't the same width apart, so you can only use one fixing screw/bolt. Remember to apply heatsink paste to the rear.

I shall make it so ,are these brown ones more robust than the black ones??
cheers guys
Paul
More robust? I don't know mate.
More available though, as the originally fitted Bosch ones aren't obtainable direct from Bosch now, gone NLA. Dealers have them (Bosch versions), along with vagparts and the like being able to get them from Audi, but what happens when they run out of stock?
I've a couple of the Bosch ones new as spares for just that reason, along with a new brown Beru one, just in case.
When the Bosch ones go NLA from Audi, which they surely will, it's the Beru (same make as the OEM coilpacks themselves) as an alternative, or the high output 034 coilpacks as that does away with the POS's. Not sure if the 1.8T variants do away with the POS's. Dave above will know that one.

Yep the 1.8T coilpacks have their own amplifiers. They just don't like the heat when covered by the standard coil cover! I've been running the latest version of these for more than 12 months now with no problems!
'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.
i'm sure you guys have done this before but this what i found,
i opened the front case of the POS there was 3 open ic's in a thick gel.the gel i can ony think its for vibration and heat disapation.
with 2 wires to the input and 1 to the output(very thin) .
i got a toothpick and touched each wire very lightly 3 came away with hardly any force at all. i think the gel was holding them in place. i got my smd soldering station out. removed a small area of goo and went to work.
hey ho its works.
so its heat build up in the pos and dry joints inside that little box ,I think what did not help the POS was the fact that the heatsink compond had gone and left a green/grey deposit
cheers
