just spoke to C&C custom exhausts in Glasgow and the bloke reckons as long as the S8 cats physically fit in the space where my current cats live then he should be able to fit them ok. He doesn't think the internal make up will be that different since they're off the S8's V8. So that's good news. So i'll get my hands on them later and get under the car to check they'll physically fit first. diameter can be adapted ok and work will just depend if he has to put flanges on. if i'm lucky there'll be a bit of piping each side so he can cut a chunk out and put the new cats in, along with sections to adapt the diameter if needed.
Anybody see any problems with this idea? The company is reputable and i'm inclined to trust them if they reckon it's a good idea.

they're not for a 3.0 V6 quattro though mate. There was one seller on there that had the offside one but not the nearside one. same on the cats4less.co.uk website and no reply from them when I emailed them. very strange.
looks like Bry's s8 cats may be a goer using the custom exhaust guys to do a chp n' fit. hope so anyway

          Are the cats at fault?

i'm hoping an emissions test will tell me that mate. otherwise not sure how to tell if it's the sensors or cats. i'll prob get a pair of sensors and see what happens, then do the cats if need be.

I would scan the fault codes first. This will tell you what is wrong.

You will have four lambda sensors on this car one before the cat and one after on each bank/side. They are often model/engine code specific, some on the aftermarket/universal ones are no good.

aha. I thought I had posted the results. I had.. but on audifans and not in this thread. doh!
Looks like 2 lambdas are throwing up codes. rear ones (after cat) i'm advised. whaddaya think? Given that sensors throw codes and not actual cats then I have to assume it's either the sensors or cats or both. even if it is the cats it may be sensible to replace the sensors at the same time... so maybe most sensible to replace the sensors first?
