We have made an enhancement so that old threads should now link from search results to the correct thread. This is not yet in place for single post links
ISTR they're only about £50quid new anyway (S2 Avant)... And the hastle of changing one within 18 months because the 2nd hand one's failed is, to be fair, not worth the risk.
