    Wanted-New 2000+ smaller lighter socket

I Have just bought a load of bits for the car and bought an Audi torch which goes into the lighter socket. I now find that the older cars had a larger socket than modern cars, is there a direct replacement, if so has anyone got one they are willing to part with.

THere is plenty of room to add a new style socket close to the old one... I'm sure it was done by someone here before - 's2avant' maybe - the socket can be ordered separately and all you need for wiring is two short links from the old socket. I'd do it myself if I could be bothered...

Excuse be for being dumb....but how could there be 2 differerent socket sizes?

If that was the case, thank god that BlackBerry and Dell don't realise about the new standard, as my 2008 model BlackBerry and Dell D620 came with a 1995 cigarette lighter plug rather than a 2000+ plug?

      Cheers n confused

I think the older one is more universal... Hence all normal accessories can fit, but the Audi Torch doesn't like the old style socket. I bought a torch for the family bus (2001) and its snug as a bug in that, but too loose in the old S2 socket.... Dunno the history on this or any applicable 'standards'. The actual dimensional differences are pretty small so with care I think that the accessories can be made to plug into both types.

Thinking about it - I have an AC inverter with an old ciggy plug fitting for the car and it 'just' plugs into the 2001 car. Same goes for one of the mob phone charges - works in both cars but is a neater fit on the new socket.

Assuming you bought the "Audi" branded one from vagparts Graham? If so, BTDT and it keep blowing fuses (not vagparts fault I might add).
I bought a Touareg version which is still a bit floppy, but doesn't blow fuses. Gave the Audi one to my boss at work who has a TT (everyone hates a kissass )
