The car has been thoroughly chekced, more than 5 times for this particular problem. My engineer said that its the Distributor thats faulty and its the part i should change.

I suppose changing the distributor will be less costly compared to the ECU swap/programming etc.

I am not an expert, not even an amateur when it comes to cars so I dont know what to look out for or what to check, and i really dont wanna start pulling out stuff or reconnecting any cables...

From what i understand the exploded view of the Air filter is not of from a NG but from some other engine type.

    I found this on E-bay...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-90-COUPE-...3A1|240%3A1318

    Will this do the trick?

OK. Last try. The "fuel distributor" is based on a plate sitting in a hole. The plate moves upwards due to vacuum - when the engine is running. This moves an arm that raises a valve - like the ball **** in your lavatory...the guts of the distributor is mechanical but relies on electronic inputs to regulate the fuel to air ratio correctly. The Lambda probe tells the ECU how much fuel is being consumed Vs air in...its very basic compared to " hot wire" in Motronic, but it works ....
If any of the inputs ( already described in previous posts ) are giving wrong signals then it will not work properly.

Do not waste money buying parts that look like they have been buried for years ....get it to a specialist who can diagnose immediately what is wrong.

Sorry, but I do not think your "engineer" sounds competent based on his/hers diagnosis. The Forum can help lots more with specific faults that you find...

@spartan AFAIK the KV unit won't work, so the one in the ebay link won't do the trick

It's conditon also looks like it would be better placed in a skip instead of a car.

            Greetings,

Unfortunately i wasn't able to get my car to the local Audi Dealer, to check the ECU, but now a ticking noise i was experiencing a while ago is back.

As far as i can tell the noise is coming from the Fuel Metering Distributor cap, or at least the sound is louder when i put my ear there. At 1000rpm there will be about 4 ticks/ second and they go faster as i step on the throttle.

Is it a common problem? Is it related in any way with the fuel consumption?

Again sorry if i sound "noobish" or unable to understand some stuff about how a car works, but hey... we all started from somewhere

            Thanks in advance.
            Andrew

Back from the Audi Dealer, and they diagnosed that my Lamda was dead.

Thanks to all for your advice

Back from a long ride with the new Lamda....

Still the same fuel consumption. The Audi techs here dont know what might be causing it, and my regular tech says that because of the unburned fuel that goes past the Jetronic from a certain spot (about 2000rpm) the Lamda will always go awol.

                Your thoughts? Im totally baffled

I'll see what I can find from old K-Jet books here. haven't worked on one in such a long time though.

There are some repair kits for those fuel metering units from Bosch - have a look for the Bosch part number on the metering unit then I can look to see whats available for it.

What fault codes is it showing ?

Its an NG engine - thats KE Jetronic (v3) so has some ECU visibility of whats goin on. You can also run output tests to tickle things like the pressure regulator.

I can print out some useful sections of the manual to help you.

Have the fuel pressures and control system been checked yet ?
I have factory data for that if it helps...

                        @ Spartan

Andrew try taking the metring head off the air box. Remove all the fuel pipes (label them for the positions.)
Remove the 3 flat head screws from the top of the head and pull it away from the air box.
Flip it over and make sure the plunger in the bottom of the head moves freely and is not stuck in the full fuel position. I have just had the same problem on a UR.

You do not have to strip the head to the same stage as shown in the photo's but it's just to show the internals of it. The plunger is the part shown by the arrow.

This fault caused it to fill the bores of each cylinder in a matter of seconds.

The car has been thoroughly checked for this particular problem more than 5 times. Everything has been checked. For some reason the Metering Regulator is faulty, and it needs replacement.

About the part number, on the vagcat.com site i found these 2

                          034133481EX Air flow meter
                          034133482 Fuel Metering Valve

The illustration on the parts is here http://www.vagcat.com/p/B142/133560.png

The part numbers above reffer to the 1 and 1a parts respectively

                          @ Tonks4x4

Yes the plunger moves freely and is not stuck.

Is the small spring clip still attached to the lever (air bowl to head) I take it the flap sits in the correct position?

If the metering head plunger is opperating there is nothing else to go wrong with it.
It can only be the flap position or the fuel pressure regulator?

From the little i know, or have learned about how my K-Jet works, i too cant see anything else wrong with it.

The thing is that it always gives a richer mixture, which also ****s up my Lamda due to higher pressure.

The whole system was reconfigured lately when i changed the Lamda. So i dont think that the flap position is an issue here.
