WTD: Audi CD player - concert etc

Need a CD player for my B6 A4 instead of that bloody tape thing that's in the car. why the hell would anyone have a tape player installed, even in late 2001? sheesh
might need canbus dohickey too? hmm..

If you get an original Audi Concert unit it will plug straight in, and you don't need to worry about CAN. That's the best option IMO.

Shame it's not double DIN as I have a brand new Symphony 6CD here doing nothing.

I was hoping that but saw an ebay unit where the guy bought a can-bus adapter for his a3. ok, i've been stupid. it's an older car, hence needing the adapter. doh.

I actually have the cassette head unit and 6 cd changer from my W reg A6 but without cable. I was going to buy a cable but I can't see anywhere neat to fit it without taking up valuable space, especially with the seats flattened. the A6 had a nice cubbyhole in the N/S rear quarter for it but the B6 A4 doesn't have much room in the same area. Just big enough for a litre of oil and maybe screenwash or something. hmmm.

      cheers matey

The changer should work providing that it was wired correctly but the changer in the B6 A4 is meant to go in the glovebox. You could have a changer in the boot but the trim on the left side of the boot would be different and was only fitted to accomodate the changer and/or RNS-B navigation.

I had a nosey and the changer will fit in the wee pocket in the N/S rear arch without the big bracket that the A6 had holding it. it must be a much slimmer changer that goes in the glovebox?

Yes it is, it's the one used across the whole range of VAG cars now but the A4 was the first.

i'll have a look on ebay then cos it would be handier. of course already owning the cd changer for the boot is quite handy too.
              cheers

just thinking, would your din sized 6 disc changer work just the same in my glovebox? I take it you operate it from the cassette head unit as you would with a boot mounted changer? And if it would work in there would you PM me a price please?
I just have to sell my cassette head unit and boot changer out of the A6 then....

No no.. the Symphony unit is a double DIN radio with cassette and 6 x CDC built in, so you need a double DIN hole. Sorry!

ah nuts. my bad. I've been looking at too many oem units on ebay and not sure what to do now. Part of me's thinking just to get a single din DVD player so I can run a cable to the back and put a screen or two for the kids. That would take me back to running a switched live from fuse 5 and losing the info on the car's display. Dunno if there would be any issues with the speaker setup though cos there's a small sub built into the O/S rear quarter.
Bring back the old days of gutting everything right back to a postive, a negative and a switched live and installing everything else myelf. I knew where I was back then.
