ive heard of them failing when rusty, perforations etc.

i did a good check of mine first, welded up the weak bits and painted them up.

        wow, rusty on a 94 95?

OK, so that can be welded, but why and ARB? I mean yeah it could be broken, but just sounds sus that is needs a whole new rear end!

Error 404 i am very interested my friend

Madpugger, the garage owner had it on the ramps when i went to pick it up after the MOT and the sub-frame has corroded quite badly and perforated in a few places around the bolts,i dont think its ever been treated from new the anti roll-bar is flaking badly aswell(it didnt fail the mot on this tho) but i thought i would replace it at the same time and also renew all the bushes to save a job in the future.

I've heard of a few rear subframes that have been bad and rusted thru etc, unfortunately most was from scotland with the weather being the biggest killer, remember s2driveruk showing me one before.

It is a 15yr old car remember, 15 winters of salty uk roads takes its toll you know.

Tell me about it, mine spent 10 years in Scotland - this is why I've now had to totally strip off eveything from underneath and do some serious rust remedial work, If i'd have left the car for 2 more winters, it would have needed welding - caught it just in time.
Worst area was the chassis rails where the subframe bushes bolt on.
Makes me laugh that some people think galv stops rust.....there is a lot of areas where the galv gets beaten - every spot weld for example! Audi should have galv'd the shell AFTER construction and not all the pieces BEFORE

yeah mine was knackered found the mountings for the rear tie rods. Shame it wasnt spotted until i had parted with £30 to get the subframe bushes pressed out
