Used rack - any condition

Has anyone got a used rack knocking about they don't need / want?

I'm talking to Quaife about a quick rack kit for the S2 / RS2 and they need one to look at to see if they can manufacture a rack and pinion kit and ballpark costs (possible GB )

Can anyone help?
P.s. doesn't matter if its a S2 or CQ rack, although a non-servotronic S2 / AAH/ABC V6 would be the preference.

i have a stock CQ rack you can have, took it out as i had a leak but it seems it was the pipe coming out of it that was leaking not the rack itself.

Coolio Might take you up on that Anton - would I be able to have it for the cost of P&P mate?

Basically Quaife asked for a rack and pinion to look at to see if they could manufacture a replacement, so the rack would need to be disassembled, but not destryed in the process

Using a non S2 rack like a CQ one might not be a bad idea as they would be a load easier to get hold of for people to rebuild with a quick rack and new seal kit etc.

What sort of turnage are you looking at The S2 2.6 rack with it's lack of feel can casue you to over steer quite a lot on the road...

yeah of course mate, no worries in the middle of revision for my finnals wooo!! but i'll post it next weekend if that ok? need to dig it out of storage, may get a chance before the weekend but will have to see.

James i sent it to 3 companies to look at manufacturing a quick rack kit, all of them declined. 2 (including Quaife) said they didn't have the tooling required to do the job. The third said that it would be hugely expensive due to the complexity of the rotary valve / pinion shaft. So i never went anywhere with it. Still got the rack and pinion here if anyone wants it to try other leads out.
I was looking into a steering multiplier / quickener but decided it was unneccessary on the road.
Something like that would be pretty easy to add to your custom steering column set-up i recon James. If you used a 3 turn rack and a 1.5:1 multiplier you'd have a 2 turn rack without too much hassle
