Locating part no. and Cooling/Ventilation wiring Diagrams

    Hello guys,

I need abit of a favour.

My car developed abit of a fault whereby the aircon will cycle in and out in conjuction with the cooling fan. Obviously this is not suppose to happen so it's currently sat in an Auto Electricians work shop being analysed and hopefully fixed.

I did post up a thread a number of months ago and Paul Nugent was extremely helpful and gave me a number of flow diagrams to have a look over. The thread is http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34152

What I'm after is any/all the cooling and ventilation wiring diagrams available for a 1991 3B.

I also have a part number and I need to establish exactly what the part is. The number is 893959493A and there is also an Audi logo with the number 0110500 004. The Auto Electrician reckons it is a Series Resistor but is not entirely sure.

He also sent me the following e-mail in view of establishing a part number:

"At present I have a problem where the 2-stage cooling fan runs
at the same speed (fast) on both stages. The slower speed is
achieved by a series resistance: do you have a part number
for this? & does the parts diagram give any indication of where
    it might be mounted?"

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

D'oh - I see a specific reference to aircon now....duhhhhhh my brain....... Schematics for an MY92 coupe with manual aircon should be fine for MY91

Let me post some pics in moment - that shows where the series resistor lives.

Item on right section of this pic is the series resitor (N24) as shown on schematics.

The series resistor for the RADIATOR fan is N39 on the schematics... On ABY a similar device lives in lower front left corner of the engine bay - but 3B is different and you might find that there is a difference between 91 and 92 models - even with manual aircon. My 1991 schematics binder rather usefully only shows the digital system fitted to 3B.

Note motor shown as V7 has its own internal resistance as well... The combination of that plus the external resistor is how it is controlled to three speeds on S2.

                  That part number 893 959 493A has been superseded by 433 959 493A

Here it is as item #22 on this PDF.

Not sure the resistor is the problem here by the way - sounds to me more like a control issue if different relays are unable to drive different speeds...
