    Aby crank lock tool wanted

As above title, would like to do my cam belt soon so I'm needing the c/lock tool for the job.
Any one have one for sale or would be willing to lend/hire me all cost's covered of course.
Alternatively could someone who has one give me the dimensions of the bit that inserts into the pulley, it seems to be about 68mm but unsure weather there is a taper down to smaller o/d.
Looks easy enough to make, but need correct measurements.
Any help on this would be really appreciated.

    Thanks Dale.

        make one.

we used some flat steel and a piece of tubing from a large axle stand. cur a small groove in the tube to fit the pulley recess.

cut a hole in the other end to fit over the front engine stub mount. we used a torch to cut the hole. nothing special.

it aint pretty but it does the job.

I'm just about to remove my crank pulley. Just been looking through some old threads and no one has mentioned the way i was planning to remove the bolt....
Put the car in 6th gear with the hand brake on to stop the engine turning then slacken the crankshaft bolt. Is there anything wrong with doing it this way?? Surely it wouldn't knacker the key way? Or would it

Got a 2nd gearbox ready? some people have tried it but for the price of a locking tool vs price of a gearbox not really worth the risk

How would it damage the gear box???
Just removed the pully that way half an hour ago , the bolt wasn't that tight tho. 2ft breaker bar was just enough to get it moving :mischeif:

Strooth - you are lucky mister... No way that bolt was tight enough...

But if you want to stay lucky when putting it back together - don't try and lock the engine with the gearbox via DM flywheel - its just flawed. The crank lock tools don't exist for anyone's entertainment !!!

Ok thanks for the replies, but can anyone tell me if the part that goes into the pulley is tapered also what diameter it is?

@-Paul, you saying that a tool don't exist I've seen them on theifbay @ a ridiculous price.

Think what Paul ment was that the tool is there for a reason and not made just for the fun of it!!!!

Hence the suggestion of using one instead of knackering the gearbox when undoing the CRANK pulley...

There's no question that the bolt is tight and the tool is the way to go if you can get one.

However, you can lock the crank using the flywheel teeth accessed through the flywheel housing having removed the engine speed & position sensors. I've done the job twice this way.

But should be avoided and not recommended as it puts unnecessary stress through the crank and other parts.
