    Wanted - S2 Solar Roof

I know I will get shot down in flames and most people would like this option. But I have nothing to loose.

I would like a solar sunroof to fit my S2. I already have the glass one.
I am installing digital climate over xmas an have noticed on the diagrams it can be controlled by the solar panel.

Or the other option is to somehow modify my glass one to do the same. How did (C20) the solar generator work? What did it look like? Is it just a solarcell of some kind?

I have a solar roof on my a6, I have been told that it runs a small fan inside the car to keep it cool in summer. There is one on ebay for £350, but dont know if it will fit your car.

never seen any link between digital climate and the solar panel myself. Intrigued as to what purpose it would serve.

The solar panel provides power to the climate control to keep the internal ambient temparature at whatever it was preset for. Very useful in hot days when car is turned off and left in the sun. Probably why it's not really popular in the UK
                    Cheers

I'm sure it wasn't popular because it was too damm expensive an option! - but I can't see how it could keep the climate system keeping the interior cool. Cooling comes from the engine driven compressor and on top of that the A/C system had a large fan motor that the solar panel wouldn't be able to power. I would have thought the best the solar panel could do would be open itself and run some fans underneath it to draw hot air out of the car and it wouldn't need to involve the claimate system in that.

But you're right, it's certainly cold and wet here at the moment so what the heck.

Quote: Even in very low sunlight, light-sensitive elements under the glass sunroof panel produce electricity to power the ventilator inside the vehicle. Even when the ignition is switched off, the interior will be supplied with a continuous flow of fresh air and temperature levels inside the vehicle can be reduced by as much as 50% with the outside air that is cleaned as is passes through the dust and pollen filter. This kind of ventilation does not put any additional demands on the car’s battery. This preliminary cooling lets the air conditioner cool the interior to the desired temperature with little energy and use of the ventilator. Unquote
