Brake upgrade for a type 85 cq

I'm considering a brake upgrade for my type 85 cq.

Would like to keep 4 stud and ABS if possible.

Anybody got anything? or any ideas even?

    cheers.

Deoends on your budget really, cheapest upgrade other than just changing to decent discs and pads would be to use the front calipers from an
s2/20v/v6 with 276mm discs from a 90 20v (thus keeping it 4 stud) and some decent fast road pads and fresh fluid

Does the upgrade need a custom bracket for the caliper?

A6/100 c4 callipers and discs, there 288mm so biggest can be got under a 15" rim. youll need redrill the disc for 4 holes using old one template but the spigot same size and thats important bit. Its been done on motorgeek few times, where i seen it anyway, callipers and dices are same on some a4's as well

So, redrilled A4 discs with G60 calipers and a custom bracket would do the job.

cool so anybody got some calipers & 276mm discs?

Tho also I do like the idea of the 288mm disc option, but are they easy to find? and how hard/expensive is it to get them re drilled for 4 stud? + are they totally safe after being re drilled?

              .

Personally, i'd bite the bullet and fit a set of '4-pots' and brackets to a set of 276mm discs.

              But that's me...

I wonder, how you bolt caliper to typ85 strut. However there are successful changes of whole strut with some B3 one, but it has some pita with CV joints, brake lines and stuff . I personally went 996 monoblock & volvo disk option (doesn't fit 15" and fits not every 16").

I tried G60s onto a t85 strut and everything was miles out.As kwlw says the very early B3 struts (which are also one piece) have the correct pitch for G60 calipers.I am in the process of making some 300mm discs/monoblocks fit the t85 strut right now.

yer i tried that and they wouldnt fit as spink says, i ended up putting series 3 struts on and using the G60's with them and 20v brembo discs was a really nice setup at a fairly cheap price!

if i had cash to splash though would be 4pots and focus rs discs

Should be easily found ill check part numbers see where all where fitted. You can redrill them yourself, use old disc as template. However one bolt pair holes will over lap make difficult, but since the bolt holes don't locate the wheel or disc, ever notice there about 2mm over sized, its the spigot locates it centrally on the hub. The clamping effect of the bolts onto the wheel/disc/hub is just the same the other 4 holes arent a issue. The a4/a6 caliper carrier will bolt straight up aswell i believe, its how i plan do brakes on my 90 as the front callipers are getting abit done

are the Girling G57's any good? I found a set from junkyard 100q, they appear to be on 11" rotors. I am thinking of putting them on my 1990 Q 20v sedan to replace the g54's. I think the weight of the g57 is quite abit less than the g60's, and have better braking than the g54's. I already...

                            they came on ;
                            audi 100/a6 (4a) engine AAH,ABC,ACZ, AEJ,AEL,ACK
                            audi a4 b5 AEB,ABC,AAH AFN,ACK,AGA ACZ,AHA,AGA AFB
seems been fitted a few golfs and jetta and all aswell, but i think the centre spigot be different unless just get calliper from a breaker and get new discs

the calliper more surface area and bigger discs so get a good bit more force on front brakes and should be cheap and allows to keep the 15" wheels if still on them

Am i right in saying your 90 is a B3 version?

if so they are a completly different kettle of fish to the T85
