Do you mean the paper seal for between the plate and block or the main seal to the crank? If the paper one use the white 1.8t sump sealant as it is much better. The other one I only use Elring ones as they are better, got several in stock of those. Or your local GSF will sell them if you buy the rear seal of the 1988 MK2 1.8 16v KR engine. Just make sure they give you the black Elring ones not the naf brown Victor Reinz ones as they stock both.

I probably have one of those kicking about too, I'll check in the morning. If I have it's yours as I don't use them.

There's basically 3 types of frequently useable sealant for engines.

Anaerobic sealant - for precision machined surfaces used for bonding two perfectly matched surfaces together (most common brand is loctite), Tremec use it on their gearbox casings for example, all new flywheel bolts from VAG come coated as standard to stop oil seepage onto the clutch face. It's the only reason they tell you to renew them as they are not stretch bolts.

The other two are both types of RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicon. These are excellent at bonding and flexible with the added bonus of being resistant to heat, oil and other chemicals.

The first is a white one supplied by VAG - This is a fine RTV silicon that is quick drying and ideal for mating two precision parts together where you don't want them installed at the incorrect surface level due to a thick silicon inbetween the two mating surfaces, like the corner cam caps of the V6's. It costs around £20 for a tube and is the absolute nuts, lasts ages as you use such a thin smear of it.

The second is a loctite-5970 (iirc) also supplied by VAG and is a thicker stickier RTV silicon that is more suited to bonding uneven surfaces that require gap filling like the timing chain covers on VR's and R32's or Porsche rocker covers on the boxer engines. This one takes much longer to set and needs to be left overnight before starting the engine. Comes in a mini cartridge and costs around £10

The white one is the one you want for doing the rear crank seal plate, walk into any TPS, Audi, VW place and say you need 1.8t sump sealant the white one and they'll have stacks of it on the shelf. It's so effective that if you where to buy a brand new I5/16v/G60 from a main dealer now they will no longer come with the paper gaskets fitted but instead the white sealant.

Whatever you do never use any other type of sealant than RTV as they dissolve in the oil and then when the oil cools down it solidifies in the most awkward of places. I've even had to pull the stuff out of oil squirters in the past where they have blocked the one way pressure valve in them.
