    WTD:- H&R Springs - fronts

I'm after a second set of HnR fronts, I have the coupe blue springs but I would hope that the front avant springs are the same. A shot in the dark but let me know if you've got anything please...

Sorry to ask questions in your wanted thread Andy (the benefit is that it bumps your thread up the list ) but I'll fire away and you can either answer, ignore or delete as you see fit: -

    1. Do you know the diff in rating between the stock (with aircon) and H&R springs?

    2. Is there a height difference between OEM and H&R

    3. If you get load of offers, can you pass some on to me please?

    Cheers n

        1. I think they're 20-25% uprated (stock are IIR 200lb/in). They are also progressive rate. I measured them as softer initially and then stiffer, Lloyd had some measured before... here.

        2. Yes, 25-30mm lower, not ideal for suspension geometry but I've not grounded out on anything (with the additional mm of 17" rims) and the handling is pretty good, expecially when loaded. 660mm on OE springs, 640mm on HnRs with pro mounts (that jack it up a bit).

        3. Yes, no problems!

        4. I was looking to have springs made (linky) to my own spec and might still do this, aim would be to ditch the progressive rate (better for ride but not as positive IMO) and go for something in the 300lb region with a decent rideheight, perhaps OEM-10mm. Price was looking IIR £250-300 for a set but this might drop for larger batch size. I need a couple more bits of info to get an idea of what's possible but have 2 possible suppliers

        5. I was also discussing options with stock springs a while ago here.

          Thanks Andy,

I have the promounts fitted so I am 5mm up but long term I am not sure I want to go down 25mm from stock as I think they spent the entire countries budget in Cambridgshire on speed bumps and traffic calming

Therefore I like the sound of getting some at -10mm or even -15 from OEM and I am sure you will get lots of interest if you do get a batch of springs made, as long as they are suitable for aircon cars too

Until then, "BRING OUT YA H&R's!" (I'm not dead)

          Cheers n

The first thing I'll be looking at is height correcting top caps! This is the sort of thing that will cheaply allow you to address any rideheight issues associated with promounts/other top mounts when not used in 4 off quantities (I have promounts front, 034 rear and no rear trim past the B pillars (at all!). Amusingly, my car sits about level on the HnRs as all the offsets seem to cancel each other out This will also allow for low rideheight correction on coupe HnRs and also to bring up the rideheight of the car by as much as 15mm if required, perhaps more, I need to look into it. Anything up to the difference between the HnRs and stock springs will be fine as a rule.

I put up a thread a while ago about springs and it fell on skint or deaf ears due to a few reasons.

Si, if you want to be a Guinea Pig for some sports springs then let me know and we can work together to create something that puts function over form

I've got RS2 H&R's on my car right now and they're amazing.
Not too low and not at all uber stiff either, even with Bilstein.

In fact they are more comfortable initially than OEM springs
over broken tarmac and then when loaded up they corner
              much better.

I still have about an inch, inch and a half of 'gap' above the
tyre before the arch. So, yes a little lower than OEM but
not as much as you would have thought.

I wish I had fitted them 4 years ago. Again, Rob GT500 was
              bang on the money!

Would be interested to know if there was any difference between the mythical RS2 HnRs & the others, be nice to get a bunch of springs fully tested, OE fronts, OE AC fronts (RS2), Coupe HnRs, Avant HnRs, RS2 HnRs
