Either lighten a stock steel one or have a custom lightened one made. Just make sure the custom ones are the correct offsets. I've come across a few that have had issues dissengaging the clutch due to incorrect offsets. Although a simple mod of extending the slave cylinder pin resolves that.

As for the aluminium ones they are not worth the material they are made from. First of all too light so makes it a pig to pull away from lights and secondly they warp big time to the extend I've seen one start to wear away the rear oil seal housing.

I had a Fidanza flywheel on my Evo VI RS2. I warped the wear plate in only a few launches. When I tried to get a new plate, they did two types depending on the number of holes and as expected the type I had wasn't in stock anywhere in Europe. Out of desperation I fitted an Exeddy Twin plate and that was a huge let down as well.

i have an alu one currently fitted @ 4.6kg Just cant be bothered to remove it for the balancing on my new build. Ive not had any trouble with it apart from like you say a noisy release bearing due to the slave pushrod too short.

Its def more difficult to get rolling but the freeness feeling and pick up of the engine in 1st, 2nd and even third a little far outweighs the launch. I had a dual mass job before so

Interesting about the warping, mines always had a slight judder on slipping the clutch when it gets hot if you get stuck in heavy stop start traffic. There was a serious number of screws fixing the friction surface to the flywheel, distortion should be minimal.
Makes sense though i suppose alu will expand faster than steel.
