have you just got rust in one or 2 places? I see no reason why you couldn't get a small bit of welding done to fix the problem. You might not even have to take it out of the car.
the garage say the rust is in both sides and they put their thumbs through it !
If you get a workshop used to working on light commercial vans or older cars in general I bet you'd get that welded up in situ for £20. Then take your time and buy a subframe somewhere and get it ready (blast + coat etc) for next year.
GOOD NEWS is I chased a few breakers and found one with the right part in good condition .. so £90 plus post plus VAT = £140.00 (compared to £650 plus VAT if Audi still made them)
BAD NEWS .. Two of the bolts were seized and snapped off when garage removing old subframe...
The Bolts are NOT a stock item, so are being sent from Audi Motherland.
Ahhh well cycling 6 miles to work must be improving my fitness, and it's saving me a fortune in petrol ! In fact if the car's off the road a few more weeks, the fuel saving will pay for the repair.
