The ideal would be a 5 cylinder of some description.

And if I could afford it i'd love a CQ converted to a 2.5 TDi, complete with that very high ratio 6th gear from the old A6 .

But realistically, my budget is about 1K. Unless I can talk my bro in to lending me some money, then maybe about 2K? but I don't know if he would be up for lending me the cash.. not spoken properly to him about it yet, but would help if i knew what car i was getting mind..

I'm not exactly the last of the big spenders am i.

        For the lower budget this:

        http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-AUDI-A6-1...item35ad5d8992

Remember that the 4 cyl 1.9 is the 5 cylinder with one pot less. There's a shed load of tuning information available on 4 cyl TDi and they go on for ever and will return 60 mpg, especially in 2WD variant. Simple to work on.

Or the higher budget - something like this:

        http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-AUDI-A6-2...item1c1658671d

Don't be put off by the mileage. I've just stripped my cylinder head on mine for some work and the exhaust valve guides are still within spec by 0.5mm.

60mpg @ 56mph on cruise with a Quattro is about 10mpg optimistic IMO although I have seen 55mpg driving like a saint with hypermiling techniques.

Not much in the way of specific tuning, but remember it's a 4 pot with one extra cylinder... so the majority of tuning info applies.

VNT are the way to go...

          cheers m8.

would the same apply to the next shape audi A6 1.9 tdi that came after them ones? I've always liked the next shape. looks very modern even today, considering its age.

As for the mileage, i need to manage at least 45mpg for it to work out ok for me, financially speaking. I'm going to be on a pretty tight fuel budget .

you keep missing them - given the current prevailing weather conditions - anything that has 4wd will attract a premium now.
