PAS Pump - where to buy/recon?

I need a PAS pump for the RS2; I have one that ran dry and makes funny noises off the car, and one on the car that leaks and makes funny noises for the first few minutes after starting.

Anyone know where to buy or get one refurbished to a good standard? I can only find negative experiences on the forum... not paying Audi prices but won't get a POS PAS pump from GSF/ECP. Has anone had a refurb or bought a new one recently, and if so where from?

If somewhen has a decent one used but recently refurbed I'd be interested to hear form you too Need to get this sorted soon, the leak is getting worse as is the noise and my 'daily driver' is proving unreliable at the mo; S2 and now RS2 have not let me down mechanically

hi mate, its late and im off to bed but thought id quickly reply. Had a mare with recon pumps etc. ended up reconing my own, 30 quid for parts, and my theory was if it doesnt pan out least ive tried it. Worked a treat, super quiet and not a drip. theres a fair bit about rebuilding them and i can add my two pence worth if u go down that route.

Just want to add my name to this as may need it soon (unable to bookmark). I've been using an ECP exchange item for about 3yrs and it worked fine, about 12000 miles done in that time, up until some fun in the snow and possibly too many full lock moments resulted in some "whirring" noises straight after. The noise only comes when its warm and with a hot engine and it gets heavy to manoeuvre, in this sub-zero temperature it works fine. I did notice a small leak from one of the pipes into the "bomb" (itself only 3yr old) so perhaps nipping that up has helped too.

My experience of the ECP item has been reasonable though, nothing like some of the horror stories you read. Although a DIY rebuild is tempting should the noise return come spring

Mine too has started to get angry; on startup it makes an unhelpful squeal / groaning noise. Further investigation needed...

I have become somewhat concerned by apparent pump failure that is actually caused by bomb failure.

As far as I can see the tandem hydraulic pump contains no pressure relief valve - this function is performed by the pressure regulator built into the bomb, which returns any excess high pressure hydraulic oil to the reservoir. The picture is further complicated by both banjo bolts (pump to hose and hose to bomb) containing swarf screens that could clog and the hose itself containing a constrictor.

I've just noticed that one new bomb has a new fitting - a large drag-link cap opposite the servo supply point. I regret not noticing this until I had mounted the bomb on the car and handed it back to the owner, but I have an in-situ picture:

You are right Phil! The pump has no pressure relief valve inside for the Brakes side of the pump. Has one relief valve.. but at the steering side of it. And usualy..the banjo's with those filters inside get stuch and cause the noise and sometimes, failure of the hoses and o rings.
              Hope this helps!
