    Drivers door window assembly

Had a go at fixing my nasty sounding electric window today and discovered the cable is completely frayed and has been injested by the motor mechanism. Is it worth trying to replace the cable? Or is it worth just replacing the whole assembly? (motor, gearbox, runners)

My window is stuck open at the mo and all the internals out. would be a nice bed for a homeless person

Anyone have a decent assembly and isn't too far from Bournemouth area? its fairly urgent as i'm supposed to go on a trip on Wednesday.

Edit: Assembly doesn't have to come with the motor as mine seems to still work, I can try and reattach a new cable to it, I basically need a new cable

If you can get a whole assembly, that's great but to answer your question is you replace the cable. It comes installed in a new drum that goes on the back of the motor. It's quite a trial to fit and you need to remove the window assembly from the door. There's posts on here with photos of how to do it.

Paint around the bolts on the inside of the door so you can put the frame back in exactly the same place and an 11mm socket which you've cut a slot all down the side of will be helpful if you do have to replace the cable.

Standard kitchen drawer front wedges the frame up to the correct height till you get it sorted bud

Found this out when mine went pop !
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

Strip it and change the cable, its not that scary once you get into it, the cable goes round the motor drum 3 or 4 times, then back out the otherside.
Dont forget to grease it up too.
