I guess you mean Inlet Air Temperature sensor? not MAT?

No. If people are going to start making up terms for the various devices connected to the 20VT engines because they haven't done their homework, then we are going to be in trouble trying to help them. In this case, VAG calls the air temperature sender located in the intake manifold, near the throttle body, the Intake Air Temperature Sender (G42). Therefore it is an IAT not MAT. (Sorry) More info below the diagram.

He called it MAT, because he is using VEMS, and VEMS calls it MAT.

Considering IAT sensor is part of the Motronic injection system, which he no longer has - and it is replaced with the VEMS system, I feel he can call it either way.

This is just arguing semantics though.

Sorry. In my opinion, if someone is looking for a VAG part, they should use VAG terminology. If he was to go into a dealership to get the part, it would be smoother and easier if the partsperson doesn't have to translate the aftermarket term/name into VAG terminology before he asks his friend KATE about the part.

*Actually* you are not after just ANY intake temperature sensor. You are after one with characteristics that are compatible with the engine control/management (ECM) system you are using. Some sensors have a resistance that increases with temperature. Some sensors have a resistance that decreases with temperature. You need to know which one you need to be compatible with your ECM system.

You don't know KATE? She is your friendly local parts persons "go to" info gal.

He is using VEMS, so he can himself fit almost any curve to the sensor, as long as the datasheet is available.

Can even get it close without the data.
Can measure a cup of hot water with thermometer and a multimeter on the sensor and write the ohms -> temp as it cools.

Minus temps will be awkward unless you use whiskey from the freezer
