after seeing the cost of a new vibration damper i was wondering if there are any spare good condition crank pulley's with the vibration damper included. This is going on a high hp motor so condition is key...
also a set of wrist/gudgeon pins and circlips....new would be perfect....

Based on last weeks discussion about crank balancing, we learned that the cranks are externally balanced via the vibration damper pulley and the flywheel. What we didn't learn was whether one damper can be exchanged for another without balance issues.
For a high hp engine, I a) wouldn't bother with used. Not the time to cheap out and b) would get the rotating assembly balanced (if the engine is out of the car, you have access to the crank, etc.)

I'm looking at it too as mine is pretty tired... let me know if it looks worth considering for you Mike we could share postage costs?
Cheers

In this case because Mike is going to change the vibration damper, which was used to balance the crank externally, it might be wise to have the rotating assembly rebalanced (or at least checked). I only say this because I do not know how "generic" the balance is, i.e. how much different is one AAN/ABY/ADU harmonic balancer (vibration damper) from another. They *might* all be clones, in which case, rebalancing would not be necessary.
On my home forum, quattroworld, I posed a question about the need for rebalancing. As here, the answer was mixed. What did come out was some people, including one fellow that I know personally, with high HP AANs, have changed rods (e.g. to Scat, Pauter, etc) with the engine in the car and the crank still in the engine and did not rebalance. Their engines are just fine, making well over 400 whp.

I looked at one of those to and decided against it as too much grief with re aligning belts. I've got loads of 3B 7A style triple v belt pulleys unfortunatelly the only ABY/ADU one I got is spoken for. AAN is different again as only runs a single multirib.
