Wanted: low mileage ABY Coupe or Avant

Having missed out on a low mileage ABY coupe locally, I'm still on the lookout for one.

Tbh, I don't mind wether it's a coupe or an avant, but I want something with circa 100k (125k maximum) miles at the most, with loads of previous history. I dont mind if it needs some work on the front wings etc, but I don't want anything with noticeable masking lines around the windows etc.

I've got around £5200 to play with.

I've also got a mk1 Golf GTi that requires a fairly small amount of work (no MOT or tax) I could offer into a deal for the right car

    Thanks.

just remember a car with 150k miles which has been meticulously maintained would always be in far better condition than one at 100k miles with poor maintenence. Don't get hung up on miles with these cars IMO, they can take them with relative ease if looked after...overall condition is far more important than 6 digits

I absolutely agree with you. However, you can't dispute that a lower mileage car will almost always hold it's value better, if it's been looked after .

I would be buying on condition too obviously.

You'll not find one that doesn't require any work, and you'll struggle to fine one in such good condition for the money IMO.

Remember these cars are all at least 15 years old now, so 150k miles isn't really that much. Especially if it's had any kind of rebuild done.

Best of luck with the search

Tend to agree with Sonic tbh. But plough your own furrow obviously.

              kind regards.

I'd expect a little work, though not as much as that car. I don't want to appear to be slating that car though, it's lovely, just not for me.

I was offered an almost immaculate ABY with just over 100k miles on it for £4400 the other day, but just missed out on it
I have cash waiting, and while I'm thorough, it would be a relatively hassle free sale.

                  Seriously?

You won't know what immaculate is for an S2 unless you have seen one of the few minters left. (Jase's Byzantine purple one for example)

I have to agree with the others and you even hinted at it yourself, buy on condition not mileage.

There are only a handful of S2'a left in the country with less than 100k miles on them, so you could be in for a long wait.

Most S2's have had to have some restoration work on them too, even if it is only running gear.

Not trying to knock your enthusiasm, rather provide some perspective after a few years on the scene.

                  Cheers,

                  Steve.

It wasn't as nice a colour/trim combo but it was definitely in better condition. Only one insignificant rust bubble on the car and still on original paint. Full history too.

I'd fully expect any car of (at least) 15 years old to have had some work, but poorly masked paintwork is very hard to put right properly, without going to the extent of a full respray.

Id started to gather that very low mileage cars are few and far between, but thanks for confirming it. I feel even worse about missing out on the local one

I would probably go for higher mileage on a very good condition coupe, maybe 150k but I'd want a full, very well documented service history for that, and no immediate work required.

                        Where's the poorly-masked paintwork on Jason's?

All it needs from what I can see is a new heater matrix (cheap as chips) and some small patches of bubbling that need sorting out. Just find a good body/paint guy.

The only chance you have of getting something any better is something that's been locked in a humidity-controlled storage facility for the last 15 years - but that's likely to be an RS2, rather than an S2 Coupe.

Again, not trying to knock your enthusiasm, but you're kinda looking for unicorns here. Good luck, regardless.

Immaculate, low miles and £5300... better off looking at B5 S4s TBH. A friend just sold one meeting those critera at that price. S2s are that bit older, a lot rarer and will almost certainly require some work to get them nice and sorted. Mine's still pretty much standard and has cost a good £15k over 7 years to restore, maintain and mildly upgrade... Anyway, good luck with your hunt

Hi Jason, can I start with saying what a lovely car you have

I wasn't suggesting your car had bad paintwork (how would I know, I've never seen it) I was stating that I don't want any cars with bad paintwork, but that isn't the reason I'm not interested in yours.

If you look through my posts on this thread, you'll see I've been reluctant to comment on your car. I don't want to appear to be slating it, but it's not just the car for me.

Like I said, it's a lovely looking car, good luck with the sale
